ELF HAT for a baby

Just how cute would a newborn look in one of these little Elf Hats?!

Size:

Width:    5½“ (14cm),   11“ (28cm) all around 
Height:   10“ (15.5cm)
 
Requires:
 
Around 16g of DK yarn in 1,2 or 3 festive colours ~ I used white and red, with a green rib
3.25mm & 4mm needles
 
Pattern:       
Using 3.25 mm needles cast on 63sts for a newborn baby
 
Work 8 rows in rib, increasing one stitch at the end of the last row                 64sts
 
Change to 4mm needles and work 20 rows in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl)
 
(If you are making a 2colour stripe hat, change colour after 2 or 4 rows)
 
Continue in the stripe sequence throughout ~

Work 8 rows in rib
Change to 4mm needles and work 16 rows in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl)

      1st Row: S1, *k1, p1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2
      2nd Row: S1, *p1, k1, rep to end
      Repeat
