I try to alternate knitting & crochet projects ~ it's more interesting, and I think it helps to reduce the strain on my fingers, hands & shoulders.
Here is my first knitting of 2014 - a pretty little baby jacket for a newborn baby.

4mm needles
3 small buttons
JACKET
Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)
Cast on 25sts
Work 6 rows in garter stitch
(knit every row)
Work 26 rows in stocking stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each
end of 3rd, 7th
and 11th rows (31sts)
The sleeve should now measure about 5” – you can add more rows if
required
Next Row: Cast off 3sts, work to
last 3sts, cast off 3sts (25sts)
Leave these 25 stitches on a spare needle
Work the Main Part
Cast on 95sts
Work 6 rows in garter stitch
Work in pattern as follows ~
1st Row: Knit to end
2nd Row: K5, purl to
last 5sts, k5
3rd Row: K10, yfwd,
sl1, k2tog, psso, yfwd, *k5, yfwd, sl1, k2tog, psso, yfwd; rep from * to last
10sts, k10
4th Row: K5, purl to
last 5sts, k5
Repeat these 4 rows 7 times more
Then work the 1st & 2nd rows once
Keeping the first & last 5sts of every row as knit stitches
throughout, continue as follows ~
Next Row: Work 22sts, cast off 6sts, work 38sts, cast off 6sts, work to
end
Next Row: Knit 22sts from the right
front, 25sts from the first sleeve, 39sts from the back, 25sts from the second
sleeve and 22sts from left front (133
stitches)
Work the Yoke
1st Row: Knit 66sts,
k2tog, knit to end of row (132sts)
2nd Row: Knit
3rd Row: K1, k2tog, yfwd, k2
(for buttonhole), *(k2, k2tog), repeat from * to last 7sts, k7 (102sts)
Knit 3 rows
7th Row: K5, *(k2tog, k7),
repeat from * to last 7sts, k2tog, k5
(91sts)
Knit 3 rows
11th Row: K8, *(k2tog,
k7), repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
(82sts)
Knit 3 rows
15th Row: K1, k2tog,
yfwd, k2 (for buttonhole), k3, *(k2tog, k6), repeat from * to last 2sts,
k2 (73sts)
Knit 3 rows
19th Row: K7, *(k2tog,
k6), repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
(65sts)
Knit 3 rows
23rd Row: K7, *(k2tog, k6), repeat from * to last
2sts, k2 (58sts)
Knit 3 rows
