AMITY Baby Hat & Mittens

Amity means friendship or peaceful harmony.
I think that is a great name for my latest pattern - it seems to have brought so many knitters, from all around the globe, together in their joy of knitting.
 
I have added the instructions for the newborn hat & mittens  -
and a medium premature baby size too for those who knit for SCBUs





 
AMITY Hat & Mittens      3 - 6 months 


AMITY BABY HAT        Newborn
DK yarn
4mm needles
 
Instructions:

Cast on 65sts
Work 8 rows in k1, p1 rib
 
**   Knit 2 rows
11th Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
12th Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end   **
 
Repeat from ** to ** twice more
 
Knit 2 rows
 
23rd Row:     S1, knit to end
24th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1
25th Row:     S1, knit to end
26th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1
 
Shape the top ~

1st  Row:                S1, *(k2tog tbl, k5), repeat from * to last st, k1


2nd Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1


3rd Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k4), repeat from * to last st, k1


4th Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1


5th Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k3), repeat from * to last st, k1


6th Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1


7th Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k2), repeat from * to last st, k1


8th Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1


9th Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k1), repeat from * to last st, k1
10th Row:               S1, purl to last stitch, k1
11th Row:               S1, *k2tog tbl, repeat from * to last st, k1
12th Row:               S1, p2tog across row

Cut off yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.
 
 

AMITY Baby Mittens               Newborn

Size:

Width:    4½", 11.5cm all around 

Length:   4", 10cm


Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 10 - 12g

4mm needles
Length of ribbon

Pattern:        Make two mittens the same
Cast on 25sts
1st Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
2nd Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end  
Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more
9th Row (eyelets):  S1, yrn, k2tog, * k1, yrn, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1
10th Row:     Knit to end
**  
11th Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
12th Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end
Knit 2 rows   **
 
Repeat from ** to ** twice more
23rd Row:     S1, knit to end
24th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1      
Repeat the last 2 rows once more
 
          
Shape the top ~
Next Row:    K1, s1, k1, psso, k7, k2tog, k1, s1, k1, psso, k7, k2tog, k1                             (21sts)
Next Row:    S1, purl to last st, k1
Next Row:    K1, s1, k1, psso, k5, k2tog, k1, s1, k1, psso, k5, k2 tog, k1      (17sts)
Next Row:    S1, purl to last st, k1
Cast off
Join top and side seam.  Darn away ends
Add a ribbon tie

Instructions:

Cast on 45sts

Work 8 rows in k1, p1 rib

 
**   Knit 2 rows

11th Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

12th Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end   **
 

Repeat from ** to ** twice more

 
Knit 2 rows

23rd Row:     S1, knit to last st, kfb                                               (46sts)

24th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape Top ~

1st Row:       *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                   (37sts)

2nd Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1

3rd Row:       *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                   (28sts)

4th Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1      

5th Row:       *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                   (19sts)

6th Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1      

7th Row:       *K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                         (10sts)                                       

Cut off yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.

Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more


**   Knit 2 rows
 
11th Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

12th Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end   **

 
Repeat from ** to ** twice more

Knit 2 rows

23rd Row:     K2tog, (p1, k1) 3 times, k2tog, p1, s1, k1, psso, (k1, p1) 3 times, k2tog                     17sts

24th Row:     S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

25th Row:     K2tog, (k1, p1) twice, s1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, (p1, k1) twice, K2tog                               13sts

Cast off knitwise.

Join the top and side seam. Darn away ends.

36th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1


Shape the top ~

3rd Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k4), repeat from * to end               51sts
4th Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1
5th Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k3), repeat from * to end               41sts
6th Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1
7th Row:                 S1, *(k2tog tbl, k2), repeat from * to end               31sts
8th Row:                 S1, purl to last stitch, k1

Repeat these 2 rows 3 times more

9th Row (eyelets):  S1, yrn, k2tog, * k1, yrn, k2tog, repeat from * to end

10th Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end  

 

**   Knit 2 rows

13th Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

14th Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end   **
 

Repeat from ** to ** 3 times more

 

Knit 2 rows

 

29th Row:       S1, knit across row

30th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape the top ~

 

Next Row:    K1, s1, k1, psso, k8, k2tog, k1, s1, k1, psso, k8, k2tog, k1         (23sts)

Next Row:    Purl

Next Row:    K1, s1, k1, psso, k6, k2tog, k1, s1, k1, psso, k6, k2tog, k1         (19sts)

Next Row:    Purl

Next Row:    K1, s1, k1, psso, k4, k2tog, k1, s1, k1, psso, k4, k2tog, k1        (15sts)

Next Row:    Purl

 

Cast off

 

Join top and side seam.  Darn away ends

Add a ribbon tie (or a crochet chain)
