Diagonal Stitch Baby Blanket

 

 I love making baby blankets - there is always a need for them ! 

And I thought I would share my latest with you. 
The stitch is unusual, and it was lovely to knit a stitch that I didn't already know.

Requirements ~

100g ball of DK (8ply) yarn

4mm needles

 

Measurements ~

Width:        16" (41cm)

Length:      adjustable ......... I made mine 18" (46cm)

 

 

 

Pattern Instructions ~


Cast on 86 stitches

 

Start with a garter stitch border - knit 10 rows

 

Pattern:

1st Row:    S1, k4, *k2, p2, rep from * to last 5sts, k5

2nd Row:    S1, k4, *k2, p2, rep from * to last 5sts, k5

3rd Row:    S1, k4, k1, *p2, k2, rep from * to last 4sts, k4 

4th Row:    S1, k4, p1, *k2, p2, rep from * to last 8sts, k2, p1, k5

5th Row:    S1, k4, *p2, k2, rep from * to last 5sts, k5

6th Row:    S1, k4, *p2, k2, rep from * to last 5sts, k5

7th Row:    S1, k4, p1, *k2, p2, rep from * to last 8sts, k2, p1, k5

8th Row:    S1, k4, k1, *p2, k2, rep from * to last 4sts, k4 

 

Repeat the last 8 rows until you are happy with the length of the blanket (around 17”)

 

Work pattern rows 1 – 4 one more time

 

Finish with a garter stitch border – knit 11 rows

Cast off knit wise

 

Darn away ends

 

 

Other Sizes ~

For a 19" preemie blanket cast on 106sts

For a 22” small newborn baby blanket cast on 122sts

For a 25” newborn baby blanket cast on 138sts

For a 30” baby blanket cast on 166sts.   You will require around 350g of acrylic DK yarn for this size

 

Length ~ Make your blanket square, or a little longer than it’s width.

Super Quick Crochet Flowers

 

Super Quick Crochet Flowers





Requirements:

DK yarn

4mm hook

A button - optional

 

This pattern uses UK terminology

tr = treble crocket         dtr = double treble crochet

 

Super Quick Flower

Chain 4, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1: ch3, make 17 dtr into ring, slip stitch to join               (18sts)

Round 2: ch2, 5tr into same stitch, *slip stitch into next stitch, slip stitch into next stitch, 6tr into next stitch, repeat from * to * all around, slip stitch into next stitch, slip stitch into next stitch, slip stitch to close and fasten off

Darn away ends

Add a pretty button if desired

 

Super Quick Flower, with a hanging chain

Chain 4, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1: ch3, make 17 dtc into ring, slip stitch to join              (18sts)

Round 2: ch2, 5tr into same stitch, *slip stitch into next stitch, slip stitch into next stitch, 6tr into next stitch, repeat from * to * all around, slip stitch into next stitch, slip stitch into next stitch, chain 16 for the hanging cord. Slip stitch to close and fasten off

Darn away ends

Add a pretty button if desired
