Requirements:

Aran Weight Yarn

5mm and 5.5mm needles

 

Tension / Gauge:

18sts = 4” (10cm), over stocking stitch on 5.5mm needles


 

Child's Mittens                         Age around 5 – 9 years

 

Size:

Circumference -  5½"

Length  -          6", easy to adjust

 

Instructions:

With 5mm needles, cast on 25sts

Rib 14 rows

Change to 5.5mm needles

Increase for the thumb ~

Row 15:   K11, kfb, kfb, k12

Rows 16, 18, and 20:  S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 17:   K11, kfb,k2, kfb, k12

Row 19:   K11, kfb, k4, kfb, k12

Row 21:   K11, kfb, k6, kfb, k12                                            33sts

Row 22:   S1, p11, cast off 9sts knitwise, p10, k1                 24sts  

Row 23:   S1, k10, kfb, k12                                                    25sts

Row 24:   S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 25:    S1, knit to end

Row 26:   S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more  (it is easy to adjust the length here)

Change to 5mm needles

Row 33:   S1, * k1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1

Row 34:   S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows once more

Row 37:   S1, * k1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1

Cast off in rib

Join the side seam

Darn away ends



Teen's Mittens                          Age around 10 – 14 years

 

Size:

Circumference -  6½”

Length  -          7”

 

Instructions:

With 5mm needles, cast on 29sts

Rib    16 rows

Change to 5.5mm needles

Increase for the thumb ~

Row 17:   S1, k12, kfb, kfb, k14                                             31sts

Rows 18, 20, 22 and 24:  S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 19:   S1, k12, kfb, k2, kfb, k14                                       33sts

4mm needles

 

 

Medium Premature Baby Hat  –  9″ circumference, 4½“ high              

 

Instructions:

Cast on 48sts        

Row 1:             S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

Row 2:             S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

Row 3:             S1, * k3, p3, repeat from * to last 5sts,  k3, p1, k1

Row 4:             S1, k1, p3, * k3, p3, repeat from * to st, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows three times more

Row 17:           S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

Row 18:           S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

Row 19:           S1, knit to end

Row 20:           S1, purl to last st, k1

Knitted Flower Keyring

 

Requirements:

DK yarn, small oddments can be used for this project

4mm needles

2 matching buttons

A split keyring


Instructions:


Cast on 42sts


K1, cast off 5sts (2sts on right hand needle),k1, cast off 5sts (4sts on right hand needle), k1, cast off 5sts (6sts on right hand needle), k1, cast off 5sts (8sts on right hand needle), k1, cast off 5sts (10sts on right hand needle), k1, cast off 5sts  (12sts on right hand needle)

Cut the yarn leaving an 6” tail

Thread the tail through each of the remaining 12sts and pull tight

Use the tail from the cast on to join the first and last petals

 

Shape flower with a little pull if required

Sew in ends 


Each keyring flower needs 2 buttons ~

Add a button to the centre of the flower – one on each side

 

Add a split ring through one of the petals.
