DK YARN
3.5mm knitting needles
 
Using White yarn ~
Cast on 43sts
1st Row:  S1, *k1, p1, repeat from * to the last 2sts, k2
 
2nd Row:  S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end
 
Repeat last 2 rows three times more
 
Add in Red yarn (don’t cut off the White yarn) ~
 
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in red
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in white
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in red
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in white
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in red
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in white
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in red
 
Continue in the 2 colour stripe sequence ~
Shape the top ~
Row 23:     *K5, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1            (37sts)
Row 24:     Purl across row
Row 25:     Knit across row
Row 26:     Purl across row
 
Row 27:     *K4, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1            (31sts)
Row 28:     Purl across row

  1. Hi!! I love your patterns!! I knit hats for the American Heart Association's "Red Hats/Big Hearts" project. I'm always looking for new patterns (as well as make them up myself..lol). Don't worry, my hats all go to the charity (or once in awhile to one of my 12 (soon to be 13) grandchildren.

  9. Thank you for these patterns. I volunteer in a group for the homeless and these have been a great hit in raising funds of £120. I've put them in Christmas cellophane bags with a label and a little bell and they have gone down a storm
    I know them by heart now!!!
