Squares Baby Blanket

I love knitting baby blankets.

I hope you like this one - it's easy to knit, and a great gender-neutral design !

Squares Baby Blanket

Size:

There are a variety of sizes - see below 

Small Size:

Width:         ~        16.5”

Length:        ~        17”

You can change the size of your blanket by adding or reducing in multiples of 9 stitches (90 +/- multiples of 9)

 

Here are some suggestions ~

For a doll / small preemie baby blanket of 16.5”                    Cast on 90sts

For a preemie baby blanket of 18”                                         Cast on 99sts

For a newborn baby blanket of 21”                                        Cast on 117sts

For a newborn baby blanket of 24.5”                                     Cast on 135sts

For a baby blanket of around 28”                                          Cast on 153sts

 

Length ~ Make your blanket square, or a little longer than it’s width.

 

Tension:

22sts = 4” (10cm)

 

Requirements:

Around 90 - 100g of DK yarn for the smallest size, up to 350g for the biggest size 

4mm needles  

 

Instructions:

Cast on 90 stitches (or the number of stitches for the size you wish to knit as suggested above)

Start with a garter stitch border - knit 10 rows


Pattern:

1st Row:       Knit

2nd Row:      K6, (p6, k3) 9 times, p6, k6

Repeat the 1st and 2nd Rows 3 times more

Rows 9 - 14: Knit

Rows 1 – 14 form the pattern - repeat pattern rows (1 - 14) 9 times more ~ or until your blanket is the length you desire.

For bigger sizes ~ repeat until your blanket is square or a little longer than it’s width. Always end after completing a row 14.


Finish with a garter stitch border – knit 5 more rows

Cast off knit wise

Darn away ends

An easy knit!  For a doll of around 13” in length

Knitted from the neck down

Doll's Garter Stitch Cardigan

Requires:

DK yarn (around 20g - 22g)

4mm needles

4 small buttons

 

Measurements:

Width ~ 10”

Length ~ 5”

Sleeve length ~ 2½“

 

Instructions:

Cast on 38sts

Knit 2 rows

Row 3:  K2, yon, k2tog, knit to end

Knit 3 rows

Row 7:  K5, ( kfb, k1) 14 times, k5                                                       52sts

Knit 3 rows

Row 11:  K6, ( kfb, k2) 14 times, k4                                                       66sts

Knit 3 rows

Row 15:  K2, yon, k2tog, k2,( kfb, k3) 14 times, k4                80sts

Knit 3 rows

Row 19:  K3, (kfb, k3, kfb, k4) repeat to the last 5 stitches, kfb, k4              97sts

Knit 3 rows

Row 23:  K16, slip next 18sts onto a stitch holder, k29, slip next 18sts onto a stitch holder, k16

Knit 3 rows                                                                              61sts

Row 27:  K2, yon, k2tog, knit to end

Knit 11 rows                                                   

Row 39:  K2, yon, k2tog, knit to end

Knit 2 rows

Cast off

 

Sleeves ~ (make both alike)

Slip the 18sts from a stitch holder back onto a knitting needle, and rejoin yarn

Knit 19 rows, or until sleeve measures around 2½“

Cast off

 

To complete ~

Join the sleeve seam from the lower edge upwards, and gather together the underarm ‘gap’ with a few stitches

Darn away ends

Add 4 small buttons
