Bright Bowl with Ribbon Bows

I made this today ~ as a little gift for a teenage girl.

She is bright and bubbly and loves bright colours.

I made it up as I went ~ then added a cute ribbon bow.

I hope she likes it.

Little Goldfish Blanket

What a lovely day I have had. The sun is shining and I have finished my latest little stash-buster blanket in shades of blue and white.

I found the perfect applique to finish it off, sat back and felt happy ......

Then I seemed to get a little distracted. I just couldn't stop making these cute little fish. The are such fun to make.

Then I really got silly ~ and before I knew it an anchor had appeared off my crochet hook.

Not sure what to do with them now, so perhaps it was a bit of a waste of time. But I had a delightful time so maybe that makes it ok?

Mini Dolls

I just found these tiny dolls hiding at the bottom of my work basket!

I made them quite some time ago as a 'trial'. I thought they might make cute little presents. These mini dolls are only about 3" high.

mini dolls

The basic method for making each doll is the same. Begin at the feet and knit a rectangle, and change yarn colours for each body segment. Shape the hair/hat at the top by decreasing. Sew on a face. Sew up and stuff. Then give definition to the face by running a gathering thread around between the head & the body. Define the feet,  legs & arms with a hidden running stitch. Add a scarf if desired.

They are based on the 5" Duduza Comfort Dolls made for Africa. I knitted lots of these a few years ago. “Duduza” is a Zulu word for “comfort”. These knitted dolls are given in the hope that they bring comfort to AIDS/HIV-affected children in sub-Saharan Africa. For more information about these, and for fuller instructions see this site ~      http://www.heartforafrica.org/DuduzaDolls.aspx

Now that I have found them again I am inspired to make more..........

Premature Baby Blankets

These cute little premature baby blankets are my latest charity knitting project.

basketweave premature baby blanket

This one is made in simple a basket weave stitch ~

and the following one is made in a pretty diagonal stitch.

A garter stitch border ensures that they lie flat, with no curling edges.

diagonal stitch premature baby blanket

Blankets for premature babies are quick to make and each one uses only 100g of acrylic DK yarn.

These stitches are perfect ~ pretty and practical.

Lacy patterns look cute but are not suitable for tiny babies as there is a danger of little fingers being caught in the holes.

Pastel shades are in greatest demand, ie: white, pink, green, blue, yellow, peach, lilac. Bright and dark colours are not so suitable for special care baby units.
