R1:  Tc in third ch from hook, tc in every chain to end.   33sts

R2:  Ch2, turn, tc in second st, * 2tc in next st, tc in next 3sts * repeat from * to * to last 3 sts, 2tc in next st, tc in next 2sts       (41sts)

R3:  Ch2, turn, tc in first st, 1tc, * 2tc in next st, tc in next 4sts * repeat from * to * to last 4 sts, 2tc in next st, tc in next 3sts       (50sts)

Divide for the armholes

R7:  Ch2, turn, tc in second st, tc across                                                (48sts)

Repeat R7, 4 times more or until the jacket is the required length.

Cut yarn and finish off.

For the sleeves  (make both alike)

Rejoin yarn to 14sts for the sleeve – tc across 14sts PLUS one st at each side, slip stitch to join      (16sts)

Work 2 rounds on these 16sts

Decrease one st on next round                                                               (15sts)

Work 2 more rounds on these 15sts

Decrease one st on next round                                                               (14sts)

Cut yarn and finish off

 
For the borders

Using a contrast colour, dc all around jacket and both sleeve edges. Finish off.

 
To complete

 
Using a sewing needle, join the underarm with a couple of stitches.

Darn away ends.

Add buttons, ribbons or bows as desired.

Gauge    22sts = 4” (10cm)



Angus Baby Hat ~ for a newborn baby

Size:

Width:    5 ½ “ (14cm)   11“ (28cm) all around 

Height:   5 ½ “ (14cm)

Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 16g

3.25 mm & 4mm needles


Using 3.25 mm needles cast on 63sts

Work 8 rows in K1, P1 rib, increasing 1st on last row                 64sts

Change to 4mm needles


Pattern:


1st Row:        S1, knit to end

2nd Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

3rd Row:        S1, * yon, K2, pass the yon over the K2, rep from * to last st, k1

4th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1


Work in pattern until 10cm in length from the beginning


Shape Crown

Row 1:          * k5, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10  & 12:   S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 3:          * k4, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1

Row 5:          * k3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1
