Wave of Light Baby Hat

This pattern was a recent very popular Mystery Knit - 

knitters followed the pattern instructions without a photo or a description of what they were knitting.

Wave of Light Premature Baby Hat           

Size:                Large Preemie / Small Newborn

Width:              5“  (12.75cm),   10“ (25.5cm)  all around 

Height:            4¾“  (12cm)

Requirements:

Around 12g of DK yarn

4mm needles  

Pattern:

Cast on 55sts

Knit 4 rows

5^th Row:           S1, knit to end

6^th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

7^th Row:           *K2tog, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k2tog, k2tog, repeat from * to end.

8^th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

The last 4 rows form the pattern

Repeat last 4 rows 4 times more

25^th Row:         S1, knit to end

26^th Row:         Kfb, purl to last 2sts, kfb, k1                                                   (57sts)

Shape the top

Row 1:             * K5, k2tog, repeat from * last st, k1                                      (49sts)

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10:   Purl across row

Row 3:             * K4, k2tog, repeat from * to last s, k1                                   (41sts)  

Row 5:             * K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                  (33sts)

Row 7:             * K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                  (25sts)

Row 9:             * K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                  (17sts)

Row 11:           * K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                        (9sts)

Row 12:           * P2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                         (5sts)

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and darn away ends

I called this little hat 'Wave of Light' in support of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

The death of a baby is not a rare event. It can happen to anyone.

Every year, thousands of people in the UK are affected by the death of a baby or experience pregnancy loss.

A collaboration between more than 60 charities across the UK, Baby Loss Awareness Week is held from 9 to 15 October to raise awareness about the key issues affecting those who have experienced pregnancy loss or baby death in the UK.

Throughout the week bereaved parents, their families and friends, unite with each other and others across the world to commemorate the lives of babies who died during pregnancy, at or soon after birth and in infancy.

On 15th October at 7pm, families across the world light a candle to remember all babies that have died too soon - a 'Wave of Light'

Now in its 16th year, Baby Loss Awareness Week calls for tangible improvements in research, care and policy around bereavement support and highlights bereavement support and services available for anyone affected by the death of a baby at any stage.
