Mini Christmas Appliqués

I have been making these cute little Christmas appliqués  - so much fun!

These only require a little yarn in Christmas colours, and can be used to decorate all sorts of projects. 
I might well use some of these to make Christmas Cards for a couple of knitting friends.

Adding a few tiny beads or sequins might look good too ! 


Tiny Christmas Stocking Applique

Height:         2¼“ (6cm)

DK yarn in the colour of your choice
3.5mm needles

Cast on 7sts
Knit 2 rows
Change colour if desired ~
Beginning with a knit row, work in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl) for 10 rows

Shape heel as follows -
Row 1:  K3, turn
Row 2:  P3, turn
Row 3:  K4, turn
Row 4:  P4, turn
Row 5:  K5, turn
Row 6:  P5, turn
Row 7:  K5, k2tog
Row 8:  P6
Row 9:  K6
Row 10:  P6

Shape toe as follows -
K2tog all across row     (3sts)
S1, p2tog, psso
Break off yarn and fasten off
Darn away ends



Tiny Christmas Santa Hat Applique

Height:         1¾“ (4.5cm)


DK yarn in white and red
3.5mm needles

Using white yarn cast on 9sts
Knit 2 rows
Cut off white yarn, join in red yarn
Row 3:  Knit
Row 4:  Purl
Row 5:  Knit
Row 6:  Purl
Row 7:  K2tog, k5, k2tog                     (7sts)
Row 8:  Purl
Row 9:  K2tog, k3, k2tog                     (5sts)
Row 10:  Purl
Row 11:  K2tog, k1, k2tog                   (3sts)
Row 12:  Purl
Row 13:  S1, k2tog, psso
Cut off yarn and fasten off
Darn away ends
Add a tiny pom-pom or a small button


Tiny Christmas Elf Hat Applique

Height:         2¼“ (5.5cm)

DK yarn in red and white
3.5mm needles

Using red yarn cast on 9sts
Knit 2 rows
Join in white yarn ~
Row 3:  K2tog, k5, k2tog                     (7sts)
Row 4:  Purl
Change to red yarn ~
Row 5:  Knit
Row 6:  Purl
Change to white yarn ~
Row 7:  Knit
Row 8:  Purl
Change to red yarn ~
Row 9:  K2tog, k3, k2tog                     (5sts)
Row 10:  Purl

Change to white yarn ~
Row 11:  Knit
Row 12:  Purl
Change to red yarn ~
Row 13:  K2tog, k1, k2tog                   (3sts)
Row 14:  Purl
Change to white yarn ~
Row 15:  Knit
Row 16:  Purl
Row 17:  S1, k2tog, psso
Cut off both yarns and fasten off
Darn away ends
Add a tiny pom-pom or a small button


Tiny Christmas Wreath Applique

Height:         1¼“ (3.5cm)

DK yarn in green, and a short length of red for the bow
3.5mm needles

Using green yarn cast on 18sts
Knit 1 row
Cast off loosely (if you find this difficult use a larger needle)
Cut off yarn
Join into a circle, and catch it together with a couple of stitches
Darn away ends
Add a little bow made with a short length of red yarn. Tie a knot at each end to prevent the yarn from unravelling
Add a few sequins or tiny beads to decorate if desired



Tiny Christmas Tree Applique

Height:         2“ (5cm)

DK yarn in green and red (or brown)
3.5mm needles

Using green yarn cast on 7sts
Knit 4 rows
Row 5:  K2tog, k3, k2tog
Knit 3 rows
Row 9:  K2tog, k1, k2tog
Knit 3 rows
Row 13:  S1, k2tog, psso
Cut off yarn and fasten off

Using red (or brown) yarn ~
With right side facing, pick up and knit 4sts along the lower edge
Knit 2 rows
Cast off
Cut off yarn
Darn away ends
Add a few sequins or tiny beads to decorate if desired
