Marianna’s Really Easy Garter Stitch Booties - with stripes

 

DK (8ply) yarn – or any yarn which knits to a tension of  22sts = 4” (10cm) over stocking stitch

in two colours which look good together -  you will only need around 15g!

4mm needles

 

Size:       3months

Length of sole:  4” (10cm)

 

Instructions:       Make two booties the same

Using first colour ~ cast on 41sts

Knit  4 rows

Using second colour ~

Knit  4 rows

Using first colour ~

Knit  2 rows

Using second colour ~

Knit  2 rows

Next Row:           K16, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k16

Next Row:           K15, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k15

Using first colour ~

Next Row:           K14, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k14

Next Row:           K13, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k13

Using second colour ~

 

Next Row:           K12, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k12

Next Row:           K11, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k11

Next Row:           K10, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k10

Next Row:           K9, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k9                                  (25sts) *

Using first colour ~

Knit 14 rows

Cast off loosely                    (if you find this difficult – use a larger needle)

Sew seam along the sole

Sew back seam

Darn away ends

Fold down cuff

 

Variation:   for a ribbed cuff

Work bootie until *

Using first colour ~

Knit 1 row

Rib 13 rows

Cast off and finish as above
