Willow Baby Hat



Willow Baby Hat              For a baby of around 0 -3 months


Size:

Width:    5 ½ “ (14cm)   11” (28cm) all around 

Height:   5 ½ “ (14cm)


Requirements:

DK yarn ~ around 18g

4mm needles


Pattern:

Cast on 65sts

Work 6 rows in garter stitch (every row knit)

Continue in pattern ~

7th Row:        S1, knit to end

8th Row:        S1, k4, *p4, k4, rep from * to last 4sts, p3, k1

Repeat the 7th and 8th Rows twice more

13th Row:      S1, knit to end

14th Row:      S1, *p4, k4, rep from * to end

Repeat the 13th and 14th Rows twice more   **

Repeat from ** to ** once more

31st Row:      S1, knit to end

32nd Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat last 2 rows once more


Shape the top ~
1st  Row:  (K6, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                   57sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th,12th  Rows:  Purl
3rd  Row:  (K5, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                  49sts
5th  Row:  (K4, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                  41sts
7th  Row:  (K3, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                  33sts
9th  Row:  (K2, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                  25sts
11th  Row (K1, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                  17sts
13th  Row ( K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                         9sts
Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.

Work 6 rows in garter stitch (every row knit)

37th Row:      S1, knit to end

38th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

1-3years            Cast on 81sts, work until 6” from cast on, shape top         7½” total height
4-10years          Cast on 89sts, work until 7” from cast on, shape top          8½” total height

  2. Hi Mariana is it okay for me to copy your pattern for myself. I've just knitted some very tiny preemie hats for our local hospital. When I put the picture on Facebook to see if I could get some more people to help my sons' friend asked me to knit one for one of her young friends who has just had a lovely 'little man' who weighs in at 6lbs?   3. Am I missing something? What is the 11th and 12th row? This is beautiful, and I love that you have given us the cast on counts for the larger hats. I want to knit this for twins and their big sister. Can't wait!
