Almost as soon as I posted the instructions for my 'Perfect Unisex Baby Hat' on my blog and on Ravelry, I was inundated with requests for other sizes! Several people suggested that the hat would be perfect for charity knitting. The pattern is really easy to do - it's only a repeat of two rows and one of them is knit! So it's great for knitters of all abilities.
And it's a great way to use up small amounts of yarn left over from other projects.
So, as requested, here are the instructions for other sizes ~
- Small Premature Baby 7″ circumference, 3½“ high
- Medium Premature Baby 9″ circumference, 4½“ high
- Large Premature Baby 11″ circumference, 5½“ high
- Newborn Baby 12″ circumference, 6“ high

That's great Marianna, I'm making crochet preemie hats just now and will be posting the pattern soon, I'm working on the new born size at the minute, these are great as I like to alternate crochet with knit and I was going to try them in smaller sizes you must have read my mind, thank you for the patterns. You could publish your own book of patterns by now you clever thing you. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely Marianna and it's nice to be able to knit something unisex. I will have to give them a go. I love your work and agree with Linda, you are one very clever lady x
ReplyDeleteThanks for these patterns Marianna. They will be very handy for charity knitting. xox
ReplyDeleteMarianna, I love all of your designs !!! I a computer newbie so I am wonfering if there would be a PDF instead of copy and paste ? Thank you so much for making your designs available !!!
ReplyDeleteSecond question, could I not this in the round ? If yes, I have no clue how many to cast on and continue, if its even possible ??? Thank you so much for your help !!!!
This looks like a wonderful baby hat pattern! I am a lifelong crocheter and a 1-month new knitter and I think I can make this one! I love the look of the ribbing and how it goes from the brim to the crown of the hat! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
I'm stuck before I began and u really need to expand NY knitting knowledge beyond knit and purl stitches. In yhe directions for the newborn size, what does "S1" mean? Thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lee Ann
DeleteS1 = slip 1 stitch knitways
Happy knitting. M
Thanks, Marianna! Gosh, I just reread my original post and I saw all the auto corrections my phone did without me knowing. What I was trying to say was that I need to expand my knitting knowledge. Thanks again! :)
DeleteThankyou Marianna I am going to knit more preemie baby hats and send them all of in a parcel as they are so quick to knit up. Your patterns are incredibly beautiful xx
DeleteIf you are knitting in the round would you do it the same way
ReplyDeleteI must be doing something wrong...the rib doesn't work out for me. At thw end of the row is P3, K1, then on next row the first stitches are S1, K1, P3...it makes a messy moss stitch, not a rib :/. I'll work on it because I love the hats :)

DeleteOops, my bad. I must be getting old or something. lol. All good now I re-read it.
ReplyDeleteThis is BRILLIANT! I can't wait to knit these in a bigger size for my daughter! :) She will love matching with her cousins
ReplyDeleteThank you for the free pattern, going to knit a few of these for my friend granddaughter who just had a premature baby!
ReplyDeleteplease can you come up with these patterns in the round. the hospitals are requesting that they be knit in the round so that they don't have that bulky seam to deal with on the little ones heads.

Hi! I'm probably being silly but the instruction to:
ReplyDelete'Repeat the last two rows until work measures 2“, ending after a knit row'
Is confusing me as row 4 has decreases so would lead to decreasing too early. How should I read this bit? Any advice appreciated :)
4th Row: S1, k1, p3, *k2, p3, repeat from * to last st, k1
ReplyDeleteVerbose: slip 1, knit 1, purl 3, (knit 2, purl 3) repeat the bracketed instructions until you have 1 stitch left, knit 1
what ply does the wool have to be
