I don't normally add pom-poms to baby hats, but the 'soon-to-be-mum' that I made this for especially asked for a big pom-pom for her baby hat!  

I hope she likes my gift. 

Sizes:

Now available in  6 sizes ~ Small Premature, Medium Premature, Large Premature / Newborn, 0 - 3 months, 6 months, 9 - 12 months

 

Bruce Baby Hat               Small Premature Baby

Measurements:

Width:     6” all around                        

Height:    3”     

Requirements:

DK yarn  ~   around 6g, if you are using acrylic DK

4mm needles                                                 

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 35sts

1^st Row:           S1, knit across row

2^nd Row:          S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more

9^th Row:           S1, knit across row

10^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1  

Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times more

(Work should measure around 2¼“ ~ it is easy to adjust the length here)      

  

Shape the top ~

Next Row:      *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to end                       28sts

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to end                       21sts

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to end                       14sts

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      * K2tog, repeat from * to end                            7sts  

                                   
Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam. 

Darn away ends.

Bruce Baby Hat               Medium Premature Baby

                       

Measurements:

Width:    7½” all around                                  

Height:   3½“   

 

Requirements:

DK yarn  ~   around 10g, if you are using acrylic DK            

4mm needles                         

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 45sts

1^st Row:           S1, knit across row

2^nd Row:          S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times more

11^th Row:         S1, knit across row

12^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1  

Repeat the last 2 rows 6 times more

                                   

Shape the top ~

Next Row:      *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                 36sts

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                 27sts

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                 18sts

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      * K2tog, repeat from * to end                                      9sts

 

Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam. 

Darn away ends.

Bruce Baby Hat              Large Preemie/Small Newborn Baby

Requirements:

DK yarn        (around 12 – 14g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)              

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:          11” all around                            

Height:         5¼”                       

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 57sts

1^st Row:       S1, knit across row

2^nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times more

11^th Row:     S1, knit across row

12^th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1      

Repeat the last 2 rows 9 times more

                             

Shape Top ~

1^st  Row:      (K5, k2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                    49sts
2^nd, 4^th, 6^th, 8^th & 10^th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3^rd  Row:      (K4, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    41sts
5^th  Row:      (K3, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    33sts
7^th  Row:      (K2, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    25sts
9^th  Row:      (K1, k2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    17sts
11^th Row:     (K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                            9sts

Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.

DK yarn        (around 15 – 18g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)              

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:          12” all around                            

Height:         5½”                       

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 65sts

1^st Row:       S1, knit across row

2^nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times more

13^th Row:     S1, knit across row

14^th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 9 times more

 

Shape Top ~

DK yarn        (around 18 – 20g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)    

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:    6½ “ (16.5cm),   13” (33cm) all around 

Height:   6½ “ (16.5cm)

 

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 71sts

1^st Row:       S1, knit across row

2^nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 6 times more

15^th Row:     S1, knit across row

16^th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 10 times more

 

Shape the top ~

Row 1:         (K5, k2tog) rep to last st, k1                                    61sts

2^nd, 4^th, 6^th, 8^th & 10^th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
Row3:          (K4, k2tog) rep to last st, k1                                   51sts

Row 5:         (K3, k2tog) rep to last st, k1                                   41sts

Requirements:

DK yarn        (around 22 – 24g, if you are using acrylic DK, an extra 10 – 12g

if you add a pom-pom)    

4mm needles                             

 

Measurements:

Width:    6¾   “ (17cm),   13½ ” (34cm) all around 

Height:   6¾   “ (17cm)   

         

 

Instructions:

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 73sts

1^st Row:       S1, knit across row

2^nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows 7 times more

17^th Row:     S1, knit across row

18^th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows 11 times more

 

Shape the top ~

1^st Row:       (K6, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             64sts
2^nd, 4^th, 6^th, 8^th & 10^th Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3^rd Row:       (K5, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             55sts
5^th Row:       (K4, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                            46sts
7^th Row:       (K3, k2tog), repeat to last st, k1                             37sts
