Around 14g – 16g of DK yarn
4mm needles
Instructions:
Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 56sts
1st Row: S1, knit to end
of row
Repeat this row 21 times more
23rd Row: S1, knit to end of row
24th Row: S1, k3, purl to last 4sts,
k4
Repeat the last 2 rows twice more
29th Row: K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog
30th Row: S1, k2, purl to last 3sts, k3
31st Row: K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog
32nd Row: S1, k1,
purl to last 2sts, k2
33rd Row: K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog
34th Row: S1, purl
to last st, k1 (50sts)
35th Row: S1, knit
to end of row
36th Row: S1, purl
to last st, k1
37th Row: S1, knit to end of row
38th Row: S1, purl
to last st, k1
Shape Top ~
1st Row: (K3, k2tog)
repeat to end

Cut the yarn (leaving a ‘tail’ to use
for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly. Fasten off
Sew seam for 2½” (6cm), leaving the bottom 3”
(8cm) open
Add a crochet chain at both of lower edges to make ties
OR
Add a chin strap if you prefer
To make a chin strap ~
Pick up and knit 5 stitches at one of the lower corners
Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until the strap measures 2¾“ (7cm)
Buttonhole Row: K2, cast off one stitch, k1
