JEANNIE Baby Cardigan Jacket                   0 - 3 months Baby      

 

Requirements:

DK yarn ~ around 55g – 65g

4mm needles                    

3 small buttons

 

Measurements:

Width:                     16½ "          

Length:                   9"     

Sleeve length:          5“

 

Tension:

22sts = 4" (10cm)  over stocking stitch on 4mm needles

 

Instructions:

 

Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

Using 4mm needles, cast on 25sts

Knit 6 rows

Work 24 rows in stocking stitch, (one row knit, one row purl), increasing one stitch at each end of 5th, 11th, 17th and 23rd rows                                          (33sts)

Work 8 rows in stocking stitch without any further increases 

The sleeve should now measure about 5” – you can add more rows if required

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts            (27sts)

Leave these 27 stitches on a spare needle or stitch holder

 

Work the Main Part

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 95sts

Knit 8 rows

9th Row:        S1, knit across row

10th Row:      S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

11th Row:      S1, knit to end

12th Row:      S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

13th Row:      S1, k4, *k1, p2, repeat from * to last 6sts, k6

14th Row:      S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

Knit 6 rows

Work 24 rows in stocking stitch, (one row knit, one row purl), increasing one stitch at each end of 5th, 11th, 17th and 23rd rows                                          (35sts)

Work 14 rows in stocking stitch without any further increases 

The sleeve should now measure about 5¾” – you can add more rows if required

Instructions:

Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

Cast on 28sts

Knit 6 rows

Work 30 rows in stocking stitch, increasing one stitch at each end of 5th, 11th, 17th, 23rd and 29th rows      (38sts)

Continue in stocking stitch (without any further increasing) until the sleeve measures around 7”     

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts            (32sts)

Leave these 32 stitches on a spare needle or stitch holder

  2. I knit for newborns at our local "government" hospital, where some of the babies are handed over to the authorities and up in institutions to be cared for and, hopefully adopted. The need is great for clothing for these tiny tots, and a group of moms knit and sew clothing to donate for them. Your knit patterns are a great boon and we are always willing to hand them to anyone who is prepared to make tiny garments for the tiny tots. Thank you most sincerely for allowing us to use them.
