KARINA Turban Hat                   for a pre-school toddler of 1 – 3 years

 

Size:
Width:      7"

Height:     6¾"

 

Tension: 

22sts = 4" (10cm) 

 

Requires:

DK (8ply) yarn  ~  around 40g

4mm needles

 

Pattern:

Using DK yarn and 4mm needles cast on 78sts

1st Row:       S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 3 times more

5th Row:       S1, knit to end of row

6th Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows once more

 

9th Row:     S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 5 times more

15th Row:     S1, knit to end of row

16th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows once more

 

19th Row:     S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 5 times more

 

25th Row:     S1, knit to end of row

26th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows until your work measures 5½” from the cast on edge

 

Shape Top ~

 

Row 1:          *K5, k2tog, repeat from *to last st, k1                                 (67sts)
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10:     S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 3:          *K4, k2tog,  repeat from * to last st, k1                               (56sts)
Row 5:          *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                 (45sts)
Row 7:          *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                 (34sts)
Row 9:          *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (23sts)
Row 11:         *K2tog across row to last st, k1                                            (12sts)

Row 12:          S1, purl to last st, k1 

  

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’                               

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up the side seam

Gather up the front of the hat by threading a length of yarn on to a needle and sewing over the front and pulling it tighter – around six times. Fasten off securely

Darn away ends

  3. Hej, I am Helle from Denmark. I am not used to measuring with inches, so you must not be offended by my question:
    In the pattern you write, that shaping the top begins after 6 1/4" from the cast on edge - I think it should be 6 1/4" from row 24?
    I may be totally wrong - please let me know ��

  7. Would it work to knit this on circular needles? I understand that I would need to alternate p for k on the even rows. But I do not know what to do about the slipped stitches. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.
