Chunky Ribbed Hats

There are loads of ribbed hat patterns available I know - but I though I would share my version with you all  
So quick & easy to knit in UK chunky weight yarn 

Easy Ribbed Hats
1 x 1 single rib                                                                2 x 2 double rib


Chunky Ribbed Hat



Teen / Adult Ribbed Hats in UK Chunky Yarn

Tension:

12sts = 4" (10cm)

Requires:

UK Chunky yarn 
   Small           33g     (50yards, 46m)
   Medium       40g     (60yards, 55m)
   Large           50g

6.5mm needles


1 x 1 Single Rib Hats

Small  (Medium, Large sizes in brackets)

Using 6½mm needles, and chunky yarn, cast on 49 (57,65) sts

1st Row:        S1, *k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2nd Row:       S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows until work measures 6½“ (7”, 7½“) ending after completing a 2nd row

Shape the crown

Next Row:     K2tog across row to last st, k1 
    
Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     K2tog across row to last st, k1 
    
Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     K2tog across row to last st, k1     

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends



These instructions are for a beanie style hat. If you prefer a hat with a turn up brim - knit a further 2” before shaping the crown.





2 x 2 Double Rib Hats

Small  (Medium, Large sizes in brackets)

Using 6½mm needles, and chunky yarn, cast on 48 (56,64) sts

1st Row:            S1, * k2, p2, repeat from * to last 3sts, k3

2nd Row:           S1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows until work measures 6½” (7”, 7½“) ending after completing a 2nd row

Shape the crown

Next Row:         S1, * k2, p2tog, repeat from * to last 3sts, k3                              

Next Row:         S1, * p2, k1, repeat from * to end

Next Row:         S1, * k2tog, p1, repeat from * to last 3sts, k2tog, k1                    

Next Row:         S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Next Row:         K2tog, across row, to last st, k1 

Next Row:         P2tog, across row, to last st, k1 

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends
