Chemo Hat for Vikki
I
was asked to write a pattern for a chemo hat for a very special lady. She loves
the 1940’s vintage turban look …….
So
…… I made her this ~ I really wanted to
brighten up her life a little by making something special - just for her.
I
know that treatment means that the head is very sensitive. So I chose to use
King Cole Smooth DK.
If
you are going to knit this as a chemo hat – please use a soft yarn (inexpensive
acrylics are just not suitable for this ……) – maybe spend a little more money than
you usually would – it is a very special gift after all. Cotton is great for
the summer, maybe cashmere for the winter …….
If you like the hat and want to knit one for yourself –
then of course any DK yarn will be fine!
I knitted the smaller size – heads with no hair are
smaller than the average head. If you are knitting this for someone with lots
of hair – then I suggest you measure the head – and chose the size that will
fit best.
I really hope that Vikki will enjoy her hat, and that
there will be happier times ahead…….

ReplyDeleteHave you heard of KnotsofLove.org which is a site with free patterns for chemo. caps?
ReplyDeleteChrustine might like your pattern and put it on the website for vilunteers across US too.
Thank you for sharing this pattern with us. I am making it for a family member who is going through chemo. I know she will just love it. I am not the greatest knitter. I hope I adjusted it correctly for large (22 inches).
ReplyDeleteVery nice pattern but I obviously have a very small head even with hair :-D Would be nice to have smaller than small pattern
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Turban, may I ask if I am allowed to knit some of these in memory of my Auntie Lillian, who died a few year ago? It would give me joy and a vast amount of comfort to be able to do this small gift for those ladies who are battling this dreadful disease. Many thanks. Kind regards. Love Maureen xx xx
