This is the cutest little cabled baby hat!
Cabled Baby Hat |
Cabled Baby Hat |
Top Tip - if you are new to cabling - then do it this way ........
c4f = cable 4sts (to the front).
You do this by slipping 2sts on to a cable needle and holding this at the front of your work - then knit the next 2sts - before knitting the 2sts from the cable needle. That's it!

It's adorable - and I like the little cardigan too. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Debi - Thank you. Just writing bigger sizes and I will publish them soon.
DeleteI think they will be very popular for charity knitting as they are cute for girls and boys.
So nice patterns. I like cable knits... it is so chic..
ReplyDeleteMiss.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Glad you like this design :)
DeleteDo you have a gauge?
ReplyDeleteThis is knitted with DK (8ply) yarn which knit to 22sts = 4" (10cm) over stocking stitch. As the hat is ribbed it is quite stretchy.
DeleteI had a question on the pattern for the smallest size hat. It says to repeat from **to*** three more times. Wouldn't that make the next row be the 47th Row instead of the 39th Row? Or do you repeat **to*** two more times? I'm a little new to knitting and I don't want to mess it up. It is such a cute pattern! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou are quite correct Marla - you should repeat two times NOT three times more! I have just put the pattern right. Thank you.
DeleteThank you! I can't wait to try it out! :)
DeleteLove this pattern so easy thanks.
DeleteHow significantly would the use of size 7 needles rather than size 6 needles affect the size of the hat?
ReplyDeleteWhat does s1 mean? Slip 1 does not make sense.
ReplyDeleteI just realized that the hat is knit flat and joined. Not knitted in a round like I thought. That all makes much more sense.
ReplyDeletewhat is DK yarn....Thanks so much
ReplyDeleteHello Jackie - DK is a British yarn weight - also known as 8ply - American #3 yarn - light worsted.
DeleteThe important thing is that it knits to a tension/gauge of 21-24sts = 4inches (10cm).
Hope this is helpful. M
Would I be able to knit this on circular needles so you don't get a seam. Love the pattern!
ReplyDeleteWhat method do you use for the seam? I don't seem to be able to make a nice seam that doesn't show holes when stretched apart for wearing. I love this pattern! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi there, can I ask what brand yarn you used for the baby blue version? I really love it and I haven't been able to find a similar yarn yet. Thanks, Emma
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely pattern. I've just knit this.
ReplyDeleteJust found these sweaters and hats...love the patterns. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteCarol
Which way am I supposed to slip the first stitch in each row, knit-wise or purl-wise?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely patterns they are beautiful
ReplyDeleteHello! I am new to knitting and am going to try your cable baby hat. My question is...when the pattern says to S1, does that mean slip 1 stitch and if so, should it be slipped purl wise or knit wise? Thank you very much for your great patterns! Bird
ReplyDeleteHi Marianna I adore this cabled hat and have knitted quite a few if you have time could you please give stitches for an adult my daughter would love one Thankyou so much Karen
ReplyDeleteHi, I just knitted this hat and am wondering how to seam the slip stitch edges?
ReplyDeletewonderful.. it's like a slight variation on the one I knit for charity. love the cable. :-)
ReplyDeleteI also like to use a smaller needle size for the brim.. makes it fit a bit closer..
I would knit it in the round to save sewing up :-)
ReplyDeleteI just love the Max cable cardigan have you got a pattern for a larger size please. x
ReplyDeleteLove this cable hat does anyone know how to do it in the round?????
ReplyDeletecould someone please help I would like to make a bunch of these to donate but need to know how to do it in the round as that is the only way I make hats. can anyone change the patterns to work in the round. thanks
