IONA Baby Cardigan Jacket

 

IONA Baby Cardigan Jackets 


Last week I added a new little hat pattern - and I have been really happy with all the lovely comments I have received about it.

So here is the matching cardigan in 4 sizes ~ 

Large Premature/Small Newborn Baby, 0 - 3 months, 3 - 6 months, and  6 – 9 months

Requirements:

Around 45g DK yarn          

4mm needles                    

3 small buttons


Measurements:

Width:                    14½ - 15”              

Length:                   8”                

Sleeve length:          4½“

 

Tension:

22sts = 4" (10cm)  over stocking stitch on 4mm needles

 

Instructions:

 

Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 25sts

Knit 6 rows

Work 28 rows in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl), increasing one stitch at each end of 5th, 11th and 17th rows                                                (31sts)

The sleeve should now measure about 4½” – you can add more rows if required

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts            (25sts)

Leave these 25 stitches on a spare needle or stitch holder

 

Work the Main Part

 

Using 4mm needles, cast on 87sts

Knit 5 rows

6th Row:      S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

7th Row:      S1, k5, *yo, k3, yo, k1, p3, k1 rep from * to last 9sts, yo, k3, yo, k6

8th Row:      S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

Repeat the last 4 rows six times more

Instructions:

 

Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

Knit 6 rows

Work 24 rows in stocking stitch, (one row knit, one row purl), increasing one stitch at each end of 5th, 11th, 17th and 23rd rows                                          (35sts)

Work 14 rows in stocking stitch without any further increases 

The sleeve should now measure about 5¾” – you can add more rows if required

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts            (29sts)

Instructions:


Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)


Cast on 27sts

Knit 6 rows

Work 30 rows in stocking stitch, increasing one stitch at each end of 5th, 11th, 17th, 23rd and 29th rows      (37sts)

Continue in stocking stitch (without any further increasing) until the sleeve measures

around 7”     

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts            (31sts)

Leave these 31 stitches on a spare needle or stitch holder

  1. Hi Marianna I've just knitted your lovely pattern the Iona baby Cardigan Jacket 0-3 months. I would really love to knit this for my granddaughter but she is nearly 3 years old.
