It's lovely Marianna, I love he crop version so sweet, thank you for sharing the pattern. :) xx
ReplyDeleteWould making the cardi on size 10 needles make it suitable for a premature baby, please?
ReplyDeleteI will be adding a prem size soon, Valerie ....... :)
DeleteAwww thanks Marion, cant wait, can you put it on your Fb page when you have done please?

Marion, sorry to be a pest, did you manage to add a Charlie premature pattern (see above) please. Thanks. I have looked but cannot find it.
DeleteI'm not sure if you managed to find it but here is a link in case you didn't

I want to add 3 more buttons so that there are buttons all the way down. How would I do that in the beginning of the pattern?
DeleteWhat a lovely site. I am a new Nanna to Charlie who is 5 months and can't wait for my other Son and Daughter in Laws little precious who is due May 23rd. Baby will be a surprise boy or girl. They opted not to know. I am a new knitter and just taught myself to crochet :) I've done a blanket, little hats and booties. This will be my first attempt at a cardigan!! Thank you such easy to follow pattern. I will keep in touch to let you know how I'm getting on. Hopefully be finished before the little bit is born. I knit slow but neat. Jane xx
ReplyDeletei adore this, although i find that i have to use 4.5 needles in order to get a good newborn size.. although i believe that is more so to do with my tension than anything else x

ReplyDeleteHi, could someone help me! Knitting sleeves and stuck where you have to increase which does do you do as well as 5th 11th and 17th?

DeleteYou're starting with 25 stitches. On each of the three named rows youre increasing one stitch at each end - a total increase of 6 stitches. Then you have 31 stitches.

DeleteThey are the only rows you increase on - one stitch each end. You started with 25 sts & are increasing a total of 6 stitches on each of those three rows. You then have 31 stitches.

ReplyDeleteThis looks so beautiful!! Is this the sort of cardi that will only fit a tiny newborn? looking to knit something up to 3mths!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the pattern the cardigan has a 16" chest. That is the standard size for a 0 to 3 month baby, so assuming your tension matches the pattern this will be fine for up to 3 months.
DeleteAs a guide cardigans for newborns ideally have a 14" chest, 0-3m have a 16" chest & 3-6m an 18" chest. Hope that helps HanSpam.

DeleteThis is lovely...do u have the pattern for a one year or 18 month old?
ReplyDeleteI'm loving knitting this, but I can't get my head around which way the sleeves should be facing when you add them in the last row of the main part.....can some one help please?
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, you add them on a purl row which is wrong side x
ReplyDeleteHi I'm new at knitting and trying out this pattern..I'm not sure if I've done it wrong as im thinkin where is the back of the cardi..plz anyone help

ReplyDeleteIt's knitted all in one piece apart from the sleeves.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what dose knit across row mean
ReplyDeleteIt means you have to knit all the stitches in that particular row Riham Tawdors
DeleteThank you so very much for this adorable, beautiful and easy to knit pattern! I just finished mine and it looks just like the picture. It was so enjoyable to create. I only wish you had a larger than newborn size pattern. Our babies are pretty big when they're born. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI've just started knitting this for a friend's baby. Once each sleeve is knit, do I break the yarn and leave them on the spare needle? I'm guessing I do, as I will use the working yearn from the main piece...
ReplyDeleteI am just about to do the main part where you cast on 88. It says in the body of text so, sorry I'm a newbie & not sure what this means. Can you help please? Many thanks
ReplyDeleteSorry. It says s1 can anyone tell me what that means please?
ReplyDeleteSlip first stitch on row. Makes for a nicer edge
DeleteI've just finished making this - it's lovely! But can you do a 3-6 month size pattern too please!?
ReplyDeleteI just made this and wanted it bigger as well. I added some length to the sleeves, and to the bottom of the sweater. I also added 24 stitches to the width -- when you get to where you bind off for the sleeve insets -- 6 inches on each side for the front of the sweater, and 12 extra stitches across the back. It worked.
DeleteKnitted this lovely cardigan yesterday, I chose the cropped version as I was worried I'd run out of yarn but no problem. I shall certainly be knitting it again, thank you very much for sharing the pattern. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry I am a little confused on how to add the raglan sleeves to the main body of this cardigan? Can someone explain it in simple terms?
ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble with the last Row of the main part - after S1, k4, p15, when it says "purl across 25 sts from the first sleeve ..." does this mean slip the sleeve onto the needle and purl them? I know it should seem simple, but I'm having a hard time understanding. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou can either do straight from spare needle or slip onto your needle as long as it purl side facing

Deletethere is no pattern for the finish of the sleeves with 25 sts left on a separate needle.... HELP!
ReplyDeleteLook at last row before work the yoke you work across 20 stitches of one front then 25 from ones sleeve 36 from back 25 for second sleeve then last 20 for second front. You then work up the yoke. Hope that helps

ReplyDeleteHi. After casting on 88 stitches for the main part, when it gets to 2 rows before starting the yoke, I can only see 86 stitches on the pattern. Where do I decrease these 2 stitches? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletehi I am on the 3rd row of the yoke but seem to have 28 stitches now and not 18 that I should have left tho I have followed pattern to a T or so I thought anyone any ideas on where I could have gone wrong also the arm holes seem so tiny even for a newborn is it really 6 stiches that are making that hole??
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem :(
ReplyDeleteHi I absolutely love this pattern is there any chance you can email it to me for 3/6 months as I have had a few requests to do this my email address is tgrace@hewden.ie Thank you
ReplyDeleteHi There I was just wondering is there any update on the 3/6 months pattern please as I have a few orders for them Thanks a mill Tracey
DeleteHi, this is a beautiful pattern but I'm having issues with this line:
ReplyDeleteS1, knit 19sts, cast off 6sts, knit 35sts, cast off 6sts, k19sts.
I seem to have extra stitches. The total amount of stitches to cast on is 88 and yet the above line only has 86. Can you clarify please?

Thanks so much for sharing your patterns. Our group donates to the women veterans hospitals and also for the homeless. I've made your Jasmine Baby Jacket and it's beautiful. I'm know working on Charlie Baby Cardigan Jacket. I have a question - I'm at the main part - I'm at the 2nd row after the 12th row. I've SL1, K4, P15, purl across the sleeve 25 - that leaves the 6 cast off stitches from the row before in front of the needle. Is that correct? Will those 6 cast off stitches be incorporated somewhere later?
ReplyDeleteI sure would appreciate your help. Thanks
Sew up the sleeve seam then turn sleeve right side out. Match seam to middle of cast off stitches on body and sew armhole up.
DeleteCan someone please help - my knitting group doesn't meet until after Christmas and I wanted to get this to the hospital before then. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteSeems like there's been no responses since the first of Oct. NOT GOOD! Guess we're all out of luck on this pattern.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled rapt that too but it is correct when I sewed up the sleeves that part is the under arm seam then I did the sleeve, hope this helps, I just finished another sweater only a different pattern and it was the same way. But I finished both and they are cute
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much - I really do appreciate your reply. I didn't really want to wait until our knitting group meets. Thanks again and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteMarianna I have knitted lots of your patterns and especially love the little Hug Boots and the Charlie cardigan. I would like to knit the Charlie cardigan in a 6 month size do you have any instructions for doing so? Would be very grateful
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most enjoyable patterns I've ever followed. It's so intuitive, simple and yet produces such a gorgeous outcome! Thank you (about to start it in colour no.3)
ReplyDeleteWhat size did you make?
Deletehi there, i was wondering how many stitches i need to start to make a 3-6 months old. Thanks. xx
ReplyDeleteloving your website. xx
This pattern is lovely! I was was wondering when it says to put the stitches aside on a separate needle and cast on 88 stitches, do I cut the yarn?
ReplyDeleteI know this is a long shot as this question has been unanswered before but I've started the cardigan and am struggling!
ReplyDeleteIve got to thensure main part and am on the sl1 k19 cast off 6 k35 cast off 6 and knit 19 row. Having cast on 88 stitches originally the row accounts to only 86 stitches. I'm a new knitter so am probably missing something! Any advice greatlyrics appreciated!
Could somebody help me with the last line of the main part please! It says cast on with 88 stitches yet by this line it's gone up to 126 stitches and I can't see any increases?! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI am doing the 0 to 3 month size and same problem. Extra stitches after casting off for the wormholes. No idea why
ReplyDeleteHi I love this one ,do you have a v neck knitted from the bottom like this one

ReplyDeleteAdorable sweater and I'd love to make it, but I'm American, and I have no idea how to cast off at the end of a row. Every bind off I've ever done was at the beginning of a row.
ReplyDeletejudy knit the next 2 stitches
Deletetake first stitch over bind off as normal hope this helps you

How can I add buttons all the way down and not just on the top?
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern and my first time knitting it. But l am on the first sleeve and not sure how to cast off last 3 stitches. Any help with this would be very much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how to add the sleeves? I don't understand what it means to 'purl across 25st for the sleeve'
ReplyDeleteHow do you add the sleeve onto the needle? And do you use round needles? Any help would be brilliant.
Thank you so much for sharing your patterns! I love the way the patterns are written great and completely! I do however prefer raglan type and top down. Right now I'm knitting the roma baby cardigan jacket in red, it's turning out beautiful! I did make this charlie baby cardigan jacket in a medium blue, but I made it by knitting from end of pattern to begining of pattern, hence a raglan. I would post a picture if I knew how to do it. Thanks again for all!
ReplyDeleteI would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in writing this article. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate you sharing these. I need to knit a newborn cardi quickly and this is perfect for winter.
ReplyDeletelove this pattern I knit for the prem babies so easy to sew together. Thank you so much
ReplyDeleteJust finished this little cardigan and making matching hat. What a lovely pattern, thank you 😊
ReplyDeleteCan somebody explain how to cast off the 3 stitches at the end of the sleeves? I've tried a few ways but it doeant look right.
ReplyDeleteTo cast off 3sts at the end of a row ~
DeleteYou work across the row until you have 3sts on your left hand needle. Knit the first st, knit the second st, and pass the first over the second. Knit the last st and pass the second st over it. You will now have a loop - cut the yarn and pull it through the loop. Easy !
