Milk & Sugar Baby Hat

Such a sweet pattern for a new baby. 
Newborn size for now - and I will add more sizes soon.

Milk & Sugar Baby Hat

Version 1



Size: 
Width:    5½” (14cm),   11” (28cm) all around 
Height:   5¼“ (13.5cm)

Requires:
DK yarn ~ around 15g
4mm needles

Pattern:  
Using 4mm needles cast on 62sts
Knit 8 rows

Change to 4.5mm needles
Row 9:          S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 10:        S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 11:        S1, * k3, p1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 12:        S1, * k1, p3, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 13:        S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 14:        S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 15:        S1, k1,* p1, k3, rep from * to end
Row 16:        S1, p2, * k1, p3, rep from * to last 3sts, k1, p1, k1
Repeat rows 9 – 16 once more
Repeat rows 9 – 14 once more


Shape the top ~

Row 1:             Knit across row to the last 3sts, K2tog, k1                                        61sts
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10:              S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 3:             * K4, k2tog, repeat from * to last s, k1                                              51sts  
Row 5:             * K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                             41sts
Row 7:             * K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                             31sts
Row 9:             * K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                             21sts
Row 11:           * K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                                   11sts
Row 12:              P2tog across the row to last st, k1                                                 6sts

 Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up
With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure
Sew up side seam and darn away ends.


Version 2



Size: 
Width:    5½” (14cm),   11” (28cm) all around 
Height:   5¼“ (13.5cm)

Requires:
DK yarn ~ around 15g
4mm needles

Pattern:  
Using 4mm needles cast on 62sts
Knit 8 rows

Change to 4.5mm needles
Row 9:          S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 10:        S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 11:        S1, * k3, p1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 12:        S1, * k1, p3, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 13:        S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 14:        S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, k1
Row 15:        S1, k1,* p1, k3, rep from * to end
Row 16:        S1, p2, * k1, p3, rep from * to last 3sts, k1, p1, k1
Repeat rows 9 – 14 once more

Change back to 4mm needles
Row 23:           S1, knit to end
Row 24:           S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows three times more

Shape the top ~

Babbity Toddler Hat           1 – 3 years

Size:
Width:             7¼“ (18.5cm)       14½” (37cm) all around 
Height:            7“ (18cm)

Requirements:
Around 30g of DK yarn
4mm needles  

Pattern:
Cast on 81sts
1st Row:          S1, knit to end
Repeat the last row 25 times more

27th Row:         S1, knit to end
28th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows 11 times more
(work should now measure around 5½” – add more rows if required)

Shape the top  ~
1st  Row:     (K6, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                     71
sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th  Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd  Row:     (K5, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    61sts

5th  Row:     (K4, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    51sts
7th  Row:     (K3, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    41sts
9th  Row:     (K2, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    31sts
11th  Row    (K1, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                     21sts

Requirements:
Around 35g of DK yarn
4mm needles  

Pattern:
Cast on 89sts
1st Row:          S1, knit to end
Repeat the last row 29 times more

27th Row:         S1, knit to end
28th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows 12 times more
(work should now measure around 6½ – add more rows if required)

Shape the top  ~
1st  Row:     (K6, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    78sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th  Rows:  S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd  Row:     (K5, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    67sts

5th  Row:     (K4, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    56sts
7th  Row:     (K3, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    45sts
9th  Row:     (K2, K2tog) repeat to last st, k1                    34sts

DK YARN
3.5mm knitting needles

Using Yellow yarn ~
Cast on 43sts
1st Row:  S1, *k1, p1, repeat from * to the last 2sts, k2

2nd Row:  S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat last 2 rows three times more

Cut off the Yellow yarn

Add in White yarn ~

Work 14 rows in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) in White 

Cut off the White yarn

Add in Red yarn ~

Knit 2 rows

Shape the top ~
Row 23:     *K5, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1            (37sts)
Row 24:     Purl across row
Row 25:     Knit across row
Row 26:     Purl across row

Row 27:     *K4, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1            (31sts)

Add a face – 2 buttons for eyes, and a button, bobble or pom-pom for a nose

Add pom-poms to the front of the hat and a jingle bell or two at the end


Fill with a Terry's Chocolate Orange for a cute little gift
