Baby hats are always needed! 
This sweet design looks so pretty ~ a lovely little hat for a Baby Shower gift. 


IONA Baby Hat            Large Premature / Small Newborn


Size: 

Width:              5¼“ (13.5cm),    10½“ all around

Height:             5“ (13cm)

 

Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 10 - 12g

4mm needles

 

Cast on 57sts

Knit 5 rows

6th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

7th Row:           S1, p1, k1, *yo, k3, yo, k1, p3, k1 rep from * to last 6sts, yo, k3, yo, k1, p1, k1

8th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

9th Row:           S1, p1, k2, *sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, p3, k2, rep from * to last 7sts, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, p1, k1

10th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows four times more

27th Row:         S1, knit to end

28th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

29th Row:         S1, knit to end

30th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape the top

 

Row 1:   * K5, k2tog, repeat from * last st, k1                                    (49sts)

Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10:   Purl across row

Row 3:   * K4, k2tog, repeat from * to last s, k1                                 (41sts)  

Row 5:   * K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (33sts)

Row 7:   * K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (25sts)

Row 9:   * K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (17sts)

Row 11:  * K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                     (9sts)

Row 12:   * P2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                                    (5sts)

 

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

 

Sew up side seam and darn away ends.

8th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

9th Row:        S1, p1, k2, *sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, p3, k2, rep from * to last 7sts, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, p1, k1

10th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows six times more

35th Row:      K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog                                     (71sts)

Thank you, I am the CEO of the Breathe Foundation in South Africa and my NPO other then creating awareness on adults and children cancer, we also support the Kangaroo Premmie baby Unit at one of our 4 hospital in Cape Town and this little hat will now be knitted by myself along with all the other goodies that we collect for them and the mommies.   9. Love the pattern but why is there a singular slipped stitch at the beginning of every row? I haven't found a reason to need this and all it does it is pull the bottom of the hat further up. Unless I am missing something, which I might be, but I can't find any description as to why either. If there could be a clarification as to why that would be great!
