for a baby of 0 - 3 months 

Rainbow of Hope Baby Hat


Size: 
Width:              6“ (15cm),   12” (30cm) all around 
Height:             5¾“ (14.5cm)

Requires:
DK yarn ~ around 16g in total, in the 7 colours of the rainbow
4mm needles

I didn't have quite the right colours ........ but I used what I had, and it looks great ! 



Pattern:  

Using 4mm needles and Red, cast on 63sts
1st Row:           S1, * k1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1
2nd Row:          S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end
Repeat the last 2 rows twice more, increasing one stitch at end of the last row           64sts

Cut off Red, join in Orange
7th Row:         Knit 
8th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

Cut off Orange, join in Yellow
13th Row:         Knit 
14th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

Cut off Yellow, join in Green
19th Row:         Knit 
20th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

Cut off Green, join in Blue
25th Row:         Knit 
26th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

Cut off Blue, join in Indigo / Purple                                        

Shape the top ~

Row 1:            *K5, k2tog, repeat from * last st, k1                         55sts
Row 2:             S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 3:             *K4, k2tog, repeat from * to last s, k1                      46sts  
Row 4:             S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 5:             *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     37sts
Row 6:             S1, purl to last st, k1

Cut off Indigo / Purple, join in Violet / Magenta

Row 7:             *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     28sts
Row 8:             S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 9:             *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     19sts
Row 10:           S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 11:           *K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                           10sts
Row 12:            P2tog across the row                                                5sts

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’ 
With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure
Sew up side seam and darn away ends.
