Jack & Jill ~ Premature Baby Hats

You love my little Jack & Jill Premature Baby Cardigan Jacket  - so here are the matching hats. Hope you like them too.
 
Small, Medium & Large Preemie sizes.
 



 
 DK (8ply) yarn         Small Preemie ~    4 - 6 g            Medium Preemie ~ 8 - 10g            Large Preemie ~ 12 - 14g
 
‘Jack & Jill’  Unisex Baby Beanie Hat
 
Gauge / Tension   22sts = 4” (10cm)
 
 
Small Premature Baby    7″ circumference, 3 ½“ high


 
 
Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 37sts
 
Border ~
 
1st Row:  S1, knit to end of row
 
Repeat this row once more
 
Pattern ~
 
3rd Row:            S1, knit to end of row
 
4th Row:            S1, *p3, k1, repeat from * to end
 
Repeat the last two rows until work measures 2”, ending after a knit row
 
Next Row:         S1, purl to last 2sts, k2tog                                 (36sts)
 
Next Row:         S1, knit to end of row
 
Next Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
 
Shape Top ~
 
Next Row:         *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (29sts)
 
Next Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
 
Next Row:         *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (22sts)
 
Next Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1    
 
Next Row:         *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (15sts)
 
Next Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1
 
Next Row:         *K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     (8sts)                                       
 
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.
 
With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure
 
Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

  4. I knit for our local maternity unit and love your patterns, simple to follow and always turn out beautifully. I have also knitted for a charity called 'bumble bee babies' and they loved the tiny matinee coats and cardigans
