Ben's Hat

I have been making hats for charity  -
and I decided that I would like to knit some to match Ben's Blanket.
It is such an easy stitch pattern to knit, and I love the result!

with ribbed border

Requirements ~

DK (8ply) yarn
4mm needles


Measurements ~

Width:             4½ “ ~  9” all around 
Height:            4½ “


Pattern Instructions ~

Cast on 49sts

1st Row            S1, knit to end

Repeat this row 5 times more

7th Row            S1, knit to end

8th Row            S1, k1, *p3, k3, rep from * to last 5sts, p3, k2                                               

Repeat last 2 rows 9 times more

Shape Top ~

27th Row:         * k4, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (41sts)

28th Row          S1, purl to last st, k1

29th Row:         * k3, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (33sts)

30th Row          S1, purl to last st, k1

31st Row:         * k2, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (25sts)

32nd Row         S1, purl to last st, k1

33rd Row:        * k1, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (17sts)

34th Row          S1, purl to last st, k1

35th Row:         * k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                                   (9sts)

Cut yarn, leaving a tail to use for sewing up the side seam.

Draw yarn through remaining 9sts.    Fasten off.                   Sew seam.

29th Row:         * k4, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (46sts)

30th Row          S1, purl to last st, k1

31st Row:         * k3, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (37sts)

32nd Row         S1, purl to last st, k1

33rd Row:        * k2, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (28sts)

34th Row          S1, purl to last st, k1

35th Row:         * k1, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                            (19sts)

36th Row          S1, purl to last st, k1

37th Row:         * k2tog, rep from * to last st, k1                                  (10sts)

38th Row          p2tog across row                                                          (5sts)

  15. Thank you so much and may you be rewarded abundantly for your kindness in sharing. I have knitted some for my hospital neonatal but they dont need anymore. So I have just done one for my son's friends first baby due anytime to match the blanket I made. Do you have bootees to match by any chance? Thanks again x

  17. The 3-6 month pattern says the hat has a ribbed border, but the instructions say to knit the first 8 rows. This does not result in a rib pattern. What am I missing?

    1. I knitted a rib instead of a garter stitch border as an alternative idea for those that might prefer it. M
