Melika Baby Hat

I am really enjoying making baby hats at the moment .................
 
I have written two versions for this design ~
one with a garter stitch border, the other with a rib.

Garter Stitch Border Hat

Size:
Width:                ~      6 “ (15.25cm)   12” (30.5cm) all around 

 

Height:                ~      6 “ (15.25cm)

 

Requirements:
Around 20 - 22g of DK yarn

 

4mm needles  

 

Pattern:

 

Cast on 65sts

 

1st Row:          S1, knit to end

Repeat the last row 9 times more

11th Row:         S1, knit to end

12th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

13th Row:         *k1, yon, s1, k2tog, psso, yon,  rep from * to last st, k1

14th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

Rows 11 – 14 form the pattern

Repeat these 4 rows 6 times more

39th Row:         * S1, knit to end

40th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape the top  ~
1st  Row:          (K6, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                      57sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th,10th , 12th Rows:  S1, knit to end
3rd  Row:          (K5, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                     49sts
5th  Row:          (K4, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                     41sts
7th  Row:          (K3, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                     33sts
9th  Row:          (K2, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                     25sts
11th  Row:        (K1, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                     17sts
13th  Row:        (K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                             9sts

14th Row:         S1, knit to end
Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.

 

Ribbed Border Hat

Pattern:

 

Cast on 65sts

 

1st Row:           S1, *k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2nd Row:           S1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows three times more

9th Row:           S1, knit to end

10th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

11th Row:         *k1, yon, s1, k2tog, psso, yon,  rep from * to last st, k1

12th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

Rows 9 – 12 form the pattern

Repeat these 4 rows 6 times more

37th Row:         * S1, knit to end

38th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape the top  ~
1st  Row:          (K6, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                      57sts

3rd  Row:          (K5, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                     49sts

  4. So cute! I've just finished knitting the Melika baby vest and want to do a matching beanie. Can this pattern be adjusted for a bigger size? A 12month old. Thanks
