5 small buttons

 

Measurements:

Width:                     16½"             

Length:                     9½"     

Sleeve length:          5½"

 

Tension:

22sts = 4" (10cm)  over stocking stitch on 4mm needles

 

Instructions:

Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

Using 4mm needles, cast on 25sts     46 + 23 = 69 rows buttonholes 3,19, 35, 51, 67

Knit 6 rows

Work 34 rows in stocking stitch, (one row knit, one row purl), increasing one stitch at each end of 5^th, 11^th, 17^th and 23^rd rows                                        (33sts)

The sleeve should now measure about 5½” – you can add more rows if required

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts                   (27sts)

Leave these 27 stitches on a spare needle

 

Work the Main Part

Using 4mm needles, cast on 98sts

Knit 2 rows

3^rd Row:        S1, k2tog, yrn, k2, (makes a buttonhole), knit to end

Knit 3 rows

7^th Row:        S1, k4, * p1, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, k3

8^th Row:        S1, k5, * p2, k1, repeat from * to last 5sts, k5

9^th Row:        S1, k4, * p1, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, k3

10^th Row:      S1, knit to end

Repeat the 7^th to 10^th rows twice more

19^th Row:      S1, k2tog, yrn, k2, (makes a buttonhole), * p1, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, k3

Work 28 rows in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl), increasing one stitch at each end of 5^th, 11^th and 17^th rows                                                (31sts)

The sleeve should now measure about 4½” – you can add more rows if required

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, work to last 3sts, cast off 3sts                   (25sts)

Leave these 25 stitches on a spare needle
