Bella Baby Bonnets

0 - 3 months and 6 months  

There are 2 versions ~ with a chin strap, or with crochet ties.

Bella Baby Bonnet            0 - 3 months

 

Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 18g of acrylic DK

4mm needles

A small button if desired

 

Cast on 58sts

1^st Row             S1, knit to end

Repeat this row 6 times more

8^th Row            S1, k3, * kfb, k7, repeat from * to last 6sts, kfb, k5                    (65sts)

9^th Row:           S1, knit to end

10^th Row:          S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

11^th Row:          S1, k1, *k5, yrn, sl1, k2tog, psso, yrn, rep from * to last 7sts, k7

12^th Row:          S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

13^th Row:          S1, knit to end

14^th Row:          S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

Repeat the last 4 rows 4 times more

31^st Row:          S1, k1, *k5, yrn, sl1, k2tog, psso, yrn, rep from * to last 7sts, k7

32^nd Row:         S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

33^rd Row          K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog                                                   (63sts)

34^th Row          K2tog, k2, purl to last 4sts, k2, k2tog                                         (61sts)

35^th Row          K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog                                                   (59sts)

36^th Row          K2tog, purl to last 2sts, k2tog                                                    (57sts)

 

Shape Top ~ 

  

37^th Row:         S1, * k2tog, k4, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2tog                       (47sts)

38^th, 40^th, 42^nd, 44^th Rows       S1, purl to last st, k1
39^th Row:         K2tog, * k3, k2tog, rep from * to end                                         (37sts)

41^st Row:         S1,  * k2, k2tog, rep from * to end                                              (28sts)

43^rd Row:         S1, * k1, k2tog, rep from * to end                                               (19sts)

45^th Row:         S1, * k2tog, rep from * to end                                                    (10sts)

                           
Cut the yarn (leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.  Fasten off

Sew seam for 2” (5cm), leaving the bottom 3” (8cm) open

Add a crochet chain at both of lower edges to make ties

OR

Add a chin strap if you prefer

 

To make a chin strap ~

Pick up and knit 5 stitches at one of the lower corners

Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until the strap measures 3” (8cm)

Buttonhole Row:     K2, cast off one stitch, k1

Next Row:              K1, kfb, k2

Knit 3 rows

Cast off

Add a button to the other lower edge

Darn away ends

4mm needles

A small button if desired

 

Cast on 64sts

1^st Row             S1, knit to end

Repeat this row 6 times more

8^th Row            S1, k6 * kfb, k7, repeat from * to last sts, k1                    (71sts)

9^th Row:           S1, knit to end

10^th Row:          S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

11^th Row:          S1, k4, *k5, yrn, sl1, k2tog, psso, yrn, rep from * to last 10sts, k10

12^th Row:          S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

13^th Row:          S1, knit to end

14^th Row:          S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

Repeat the last 4 rows 5 times more

35^th Row:          S1, k4, *k5, yrn, sl1, k2tog, psso, yrn, rep from * to last 10sts, k10

36^th Row:         S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

 

37^th Row          K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog                                                   (69sts)

38^th Row:         K2tog, k2, purl to last 4sts, k2, k2tog                                         (67sts)

39^th Row          K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog                                                   (65sts)

40^th Row:         K2tog, purl to last 2sts, k2tog                                                    (63sts)

    

Shape Top ~ 

41^st Row:         *K5, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                                (54sts)

42^nd, 44^th, 48^th, 50^th, 52^nd Rows       S1, purl to last st, k1

43^rd Row:         *K4, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                                (45sts)

45^th Row:         *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                                (36sts)

47^th Row:         *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                                (27sts)

49^th Row:         *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to end                                                (18sts)

51^st Row:          *K2tog, repeat from * to end                                                       (9sts)

Cut the yarn (leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.  Fasten off

Sew seam, leaving the bottom 4” (10cm) open

Add a crochet chain at both of lower edges to make ties
