Size:

Width: 5½“ (14cm) 11” (28cm) all around

Height: 5½“ (14cm)

Requirements:

Around 14g – 16g of DK yarn

4mm needles

Instructions:

Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 56sts

1^st Row: S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 21 times more

23^rd Row: S1, knit to end of row

24^th Row: S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

29^th Row: K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog

30^th Row: S1, k2, purl to last 3sts, k3

31^st Row: K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog

32^nd Row: S1, k1, purl to last 2sts, k2

33^rd Row: K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog

34^th Row: S1, purl to last st, k1 (50sts)

35^th Row: S1, knit to end of row

36^th Row: S1, purl to last st, k1

37^th Row: S1, knit to end of row

38^th Row: S1, purl to last st, k1

Shape Top ~

1^st Row: (K3, k2tog) repeat to end (40sts)

2^nd Row: S1, purl to last st, k1

3^rd Row: (K2, k2tog) repeat to end (30sts)

4^th Row: S1, purl to last st, k1

5^th Row: (K1, k2tog) repeat to end (20sts)

6^th Row: S1, purl to last st, k1

7^th Row: K2tog across row (10sts)

8^th Row: S1, purl to last st, k1

Cut the yarn (leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly. Fasten off

Sew seam for 2½” (6cm), leaving the bottom 3” (8cm) open

Add a crochet chain at both of lower edges to make ties

Add a chin strap if you prefer

To make a chin strap ~

Pick up and knit 5 stitches at one of the lower corners

Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until the strap measures 2¾“ (7cm)

Buttonhole Row: K2, cast off one stitch, k1

Next Row: K1, kfb, k2

Knit 3 rows

Cast off

Add a button to the other lower edge

Darn away ends
