Ziggy Baby Hats

Ziggy Baby Hats

Requirements:

DK (8ply) (light worsted) yarn

   ~ around 8g for the medium preemie, 12g for the large preemie, and 14g for the newborn size

4mm needles 


Medium Premature Baby Hat  –  8″ circumference, 4“ high 

Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 43sts

Knit 4 rows

Row 5:         S1, knit to end

Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 7:         S1, *p1, k7, repeat from * to last 2sts, p1, k1

Row 8:          * k1, p1, k1, p5, repeat from * to last 3sts, k1, p1, k1

Row 9:          S1, k2* p1, k3, repeat from * to end

Row 10:        S1, p3, * k1, p1, k1, p5, repeat from * to last 7sts, k1, p1 k1, p3, k1

Row 11:        S1, k4, *p1, k7, repeat from * to last 6sts, p1, k5

Row 12:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 8 rows (rows 5 – 12) once more

Row 21:        S1, knit to end

Row 22:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 23:        K2tog, knit to last 2sts, k2tog                                    (41sts)

Row 24:        S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape Top ~

Next Row:     *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     (33sts)

Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     (25sts)

Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     (17sts)

Next Row:    * P2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                            (9sts)

                            

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

 

 

Large  Premature Baby Hat  –  9½”- 10”  circumference, 4¾“ high

Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 51sts

Knit 4 rows

Row 5:         S1, knit to end

Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 7:         S1, *p1, k7, repeat from * to last 2sts, p1, k1

Row 8:          * k1, p1, k1, p5, repeat from * to last 3sts, k1, p1, k1

Row 9:          S1, k2* p1, k3, repeat from * to end

Row 10:        S1, p3, * k1, p1, k1, p5, repeat from * to last 7sts, k1, p1 k1, p3, k1

Row 11:        S1, k4, *p1, k7, repeat from * to last 6sts, p1, k5

Row 12:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 8 rows (rows 5 – 12) twice more

Row 29:        S1, knit to end

Row 30:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     * k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                          (11sts)

Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 10:        * k1, p1, k1, p5, repeat from * to last 3sts, k1, p1, k1

Row 11:        S1, k2* p1, k3, repeat from * to end

Row 12:        S1, p3, * k1, p1, k1, p5, repeat from * to last 7sts, k1, p1 k1, p3, k1

Row 13:        S1, k4, *p1, k7, repeat from * to last 6sts, p1, k5

Row 14:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 8 rows (rows 7 – 14) twice more

Row 31:        S1, knit to end

Row 32:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 33:        Kfb, knit to last st, kfb                                               (61sts)

Row 34:        S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape Top ~  

Next Row:     *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     (49sts)

Next Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:     *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                     (37sts)

  4. I am making the Newborn size ziggy baby hat and on row 33 it says to kfb ? What does kfb mean? there are no explanation on what to do? Can you please let me know as soon as you can..     1. Hi did you get a reply. It knit one into front and one into back. If there's one you don't know then Google it or you tube is best

    2. KFB means knit front & back on the same stitch. There are some good videos of how to knit the stitch on YouTube
