Poncho for a Baby Doll

Using DK yarn and 4mm needles ~

Cast on 65sts

Knit 2 rows

Row 3:                   S1, * yrn, k2tog, repeat from * to end

Row 4 and every alternate (wrong side) row:       S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 5:                   Kfb,  k30, kfb, kfb, k30, kfb, k1

Row 7:                   Kfb,  k32, kfb, kfb, k32, kfb, k1

Row 9:                   Kfb,  k34, kfb, kfb, k34, kfb, k1

Continue working and increasing in this manner until work measures 4½” from the cast on edge  (use stitch markers if this helps you)

 

It is easy to adjust the length here (work more rows if required)

Knit 9 rows, continuing to increase as before on every right side row

Cast off knitwise loosely (if you find this difficult – use a larger needle)

Sew up the back seam

Darn away ends

 

Make a crochet chain drawstring (or use a ribbon if you prefer)

Thread it through the eyelet holes at the neckline, and tie in a bow

Poncho for her Baby Doll too!

If you have decided to crochet my toddler poncho - why not made a little version - for her baby doll too ? !

What could be cuter? This fits my 'Annabelle' doll perfectly.

These instructions use UK terminology ~

CH = chain          TR = treble crochet         SS = slip stitch

 

Baby Doll Poncho

 

I used 36g of DK (8ply) yarn and 4mm hook

 

CH 56 and join with  a SS  (make sure the chain is not twisted)

Round 1:                TR (treble crochet) in every chain stitch

Round 2:  CH 3 and work a TR into the next 2 stitches,  * CH 1 skip a stitch, and work a TR into the next 3 stitches,   Repeat from * 12 times more, CH1,  SS to join.   (You should have 14 clusters of TR's and 14 spaces)

Round 3:  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, * jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from * another 4 times (you will have 6 clusters in total),  work 3TR, 3CH,  3TR in next space,  ** jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from ** another 5  times, work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into the next space,  CH1, and SS to join (you will now have 6 clusters, a point, 6 clusters and a point)

Round 4:  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, * jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from * another 4 times (you will have 6 clusters in total),  work 3TR, 3CH,  3TR in next chain space,  ** jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from ** another 6  times, work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into the next space,  jump to the next space and work 3TR, CH1, and SS to join

Continue  -  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, work 3TR into every space, and  work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into each point  -  and end each round with CH1, and SS to join - for 9 more rounds  (or until the length you require)

Darn away ends

Add a crochet chain drawstring cord to the base of the first round, and tie in a bow

Easy Crochet Poncho

An easy to make Crochet Poncho , for a pre-school toddler (age 1 - 3 years) 

Crochet Poncho          1 - 3 years 

 

I would like to point out that this is not my design -

this traditional way of crocheting a poncho has been around for a very long time!

I remember my Mum showing me how to make these over 40 years ago! 

These instructions use UK terminology ~

CH = chain          TR = treble crochet         SS = slip stitch

 

Toddler Poncho

 

I used 86g of DK (8ply) yarn and 4mm hook

CH 72 and join with a SS  (make sure the chain is not twisted)

Round 1:                TR (treble crochet) in every chain stitch

Round 2:  CH 3 and work a TR into the next 2 stitches,  * CH 1 skip a stitch, and work a TR into the next 3 stitches,   Repeat from * 16 times more, CH1,  SS to join.   (You should have 18 clusters of TR's and 18 spaces)

Round 3:  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, * jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from * another 6 times (you will have 8 clusters in total),  work 3TR, 3CH,  3TR in next space,  ** jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from ** another 6 times, work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into the next space,  CH1, and SS to join (you will now have 8 clusters, a point, 8 clusters and a point)

Round 4:  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, * jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from * another 6 times (you will have 8 clusters in total),  work 3TR, 3CH,  3TR in next space,  ** jump to the next space and work 3TR,  repeat from ** another 8  times, work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into the next space,  jump to the next space and work 3TR, CH1, and SS to join

Continue  -  SS 2 stitches to the first space, CH 3 and work 2TR into the same space, work 3TR into every space, and  work 3TR, 3CH, 3TR into each point  - and end each round with CH1, and SS to join - for 18 more rounds (or until the length you require)

Darn away ends

Add a crochet chain drawstring cord to the base of the first round, and tie in a bow

You could add a crochet shell edging  - or fringes – if you like

Repeat this row once more

 

Pattern ~

 

3^rd Row:            S1, knit to end of row

 

4^th Row:            S1, *p3, k1, repeat from * to end

 

Repeat the last two rows until work measures 2”, ending after a knit row

 

Next Row:         S1, purl to last 2sts, k2tog                                 (36sts)

 

Next Row:         S1, knit to end of row

 

Next Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Shape Top ~

 

Next Row:         *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (29sts)

Length:      adjustable ......... I made mine 20" (51cm)

 

Pattern Instructions ~

Cast on 92 stitches

 

Start with a garter stitch border - knit 10 rows

 

11^th Row:       S1, knit across row

 

12^th Row:       S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

 

13^th Row:       S1, k4, * k2, p2, rep from * to last 7sts, k7

 

14^th Row:       S1, k4, * p2, k2, rep from * to last 3sts, k3

 

15^th Row:       S1, knit across row

 

16^th Row:       S1, k4, purl to last 5sts, k5

 

Repeat the last 6 rows until blanket measures  

Finish with a garter stitch border – knit 11 rows

Cast off knit wise

Darn away ends
