Requirements:

DK yarn           (around 4g, 8g, 12g, 16g, 22g, 28g of acrylic DK)        

4mm needles

 

Tension / Gauge:

22sts = 4” (10cm)

Height:             3“ (7.5cm)

 

Instructions:

Cast on 35sts

1^st Row:           S1, * k1, p1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2

2^nd Row:          S1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end

Repeat the last 2 rows twice more, increasing one stitch at end of the last row       (36sts)

7^th Row:           S1, knit to end

8^th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows four times more

 

Shape the top ~

Row 1:             *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (29sts)

Row 2:             S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 3:             *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (22sts)

Row 4:             S1, purl to last st, k1  

Row 5:             *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (15sts)

Row 6:             S1, purl to last st, k1  

Row 6:             * K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                             (8sts)                         

 

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’ to use for sewing up

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and darn away ends.

Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more, increasing one stitch at end of the last row       (46sts)

9^th Row:           S1, knit to end

10^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows six times more

 

Shape the top ~

Row 1:             *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (37sts)

Row2:              S1, purl to last st, k1

Row3:              *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (28sts)

Row 4:             S1, purl to last st, k1  

Row 5:             *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (19sts)

Row 6:             S1, purl to last st, k1

Aran Weight Yarn

5mm and 5.5mm needles

 

Tension / Gauge:

18sts = 4” (10cm), over stocking stitch on 5.5mm needles

 

Child's Mittens                         Age around 5 – 9 years

 

Size:

Circumference -  5½"

Length  -          6", easy to adjust

 

Instructions:

With 5mm needles, cast on 25sts

Rib 14 rows

Change to 5.5mm needles

Increase for the thumb ~

Row 15:   K11, kfb, kfb, k12

Rows 16, 18, and 20:  S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 17:   K11, kfb,k2, kfb, k12

Row 19:   K11, kfb, k4, kfb, k12

Row 21:   K11, kfb, k6, kfb, k12                                            33sts

Row 22:   S1, p11, cast off 9sts knitwise, p10, k1                 24sts  

Row 23:   S1, k10, kfb, k12                                                    25sts

Row 24:   S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 25:    S1, knit to end

Row 26:   S1, purl to last st, k1

Rib    16 rows

Change to 5.5mm needles

Increase for the thumb ~

Rows 18, 20, 22 and 24:  S1, purl to last st, k1
