Simple Crochet Baby Bonnets

 

Simple Crochet Baby Bonnets             In sizes Micro Preemie ~ Newborn

Simple Crochet Baby /  Baby Doll Bonnets 


Abbreviations:

This pattern is written in UK terminology      

tc = treble crochet        dc = double crochet       ch = chain


Simple Crochet Baby Bonnet        Micro Preemie Baby / Baby Doll      Peach Edging

 

Requirements:

DK yarn, around 2g
4mm crochet hook

 

Size:

Width ~ 2½“

Height ~ 2¾“

 

Instructions:

Worked in the round

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1:   Ch2, make 9tc into ring, slip stitch to join     (10sts)

Round 2:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2, 2tc in each stitch all around, join with slip stitch       (20sts)

The rest of the bonnet is worked flat, in rows

Round 3:   Ch2, 1tc in each stitch all around (20sts)

Rounds 4 & 5:    Work 2 more rows of trebles on these 20sts

(Work should now measure around 2“ in length – you can adjust here)

Now continue working around the back opening -  using dc - 

ch 1, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 3 times,  1 dc into each of next st, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 3 times

Cut off main colour yarn

 

Using a contrast colour yarn -  chain 16sts for a crochet tie, then continue by working into Round 5 of the bonnet front, making 22dc across the front – chain 16 for the second tie

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn, around 5g
4mm crochet hook

 

Size:

Width ~ 3”

Height ~ 3¾“

 

Instructions:

Worked in the round

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1:   Ch2, make 9tc into ring, slip stitch to join     (10sts)

Round 2:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2, 2tc in each stitch all around, join with slip stitch       (20sts)

Round 3:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next st, 2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around, 1tc in last st, join with slip stitch      (30sts)

The rest of the bonnet is worked flat, in rows

Round 4:   Ch2, 1tc in each stitch all around (30sts)

Rounds 5 & 6:    Work 2 more rows of trebles on these 30sts

(Work should now measure around 2½“ in length – you can adjust here)

Now continue working around the back opening -  using dc - 

ch 1, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 3 times,  1 dc into each of next st, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 3 times

Cut off main colour yarn

 

Using a contrast colour yarn -  chain 20sts for a crochet tie, then continue by working into Round 6 of the bonnet front, making 32dc across the front  – chain 20 for the second tie

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn, around 8g
4mm crochet hook

 

Size:

Width ~ 3½“

Height ~ 4½“

 

Instructions:

Worked in the round

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1:   Ch2, make 11tc into ring, slip stitch to join     (12sts)

Round 2:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2, 2tc in each stitch all around, join with slip stitch       (24sts)

Round 3:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around,  join with slip stitch      (36sts)

The rest of the bonnet is worked flat, in rows

Round 4:   Ch2, 1tc in each stitch all around (36sts)

Rounds 5 - 7:    Work 3 more rows of trebles on these 36sts

(Work should now measure around 3“ in length – you can adjust here)

Now continue working around the back opening -  using dc - 

ch 1, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 4 times,  1 dc into each of next st, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 4 times

Cut off main colour yarn

 

Using a contrast colour yarn -  chain 24sts for a crochet tie, then continue by working into Round 7 of the bonnet front, making 38dc across the front – chain 24 for the second tie

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn, around 10g
4mm crochet hook

 

Size:

Width ~ 4”

Height ~ 5”

 

Instructions: 

Worked in the round

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1:   Ch2, make 9tc into ring, slip stitch to join     (10sts)

Round 2:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2, 2tc in each stitch all around, join with slip stitch       (20sts)

Round 3:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around,  join with slip stitch      (30sts)

Round 4:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 1tc in next stitch , 2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around,  join with slip stitch    (40sts)

The rest of the bonnet is worked flat, in rows

Round 5:   Ch2, 1tc in each stitch all around (40sts)

Rounds 6 - 8:    Work 3 more rows of trebles on these 40sts

(Work should now measure around 3½“ in length – you can adjust here)

Now continue working around the back opening -  using dc - 

ch 1, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 4 times,  1 dc into each of next st, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 4 times

Cut off main colour yarn

 

Using a contrast colour yarn -  chain 28sts for a crochet tie, then continue by working into Round 8 of the bonnet front, making 42dc across the front – chain 28 for the second tie

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn, around 12g
4mm crochet hook

 

Size:

Width ~ 4½“

Height ~ 5½“

 

Instructions:

Worked in the round

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1:   Ch2, make 11tc into ring, slip stitch to join     (12sts)

Round 2:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2, 2tc in each stitch all around, join with slip stitch       (24sts)

Round 3:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around,  join with slip stitch      (36sts)

Round 4:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 1tc in next stitch, 2tc in next stitch, 1tc in next stitch, 1tc in next stitch, 1tc in next st, 2tc in next stitch repeat from,  * all around,  join with slip stitch    (45sts)

The rest of the bonnet is worked flat, in rows

Round 5:   Ch2, 1tc in each stitch all around, , leave last 2sts un-worked, turn (43sts)

Rounds 6 - 9:    Work 4 more rows of trebles on these 43sts

(Work should now measure around 4“ in length – you can adjust here)

Now continue working around the back opening -  using dc - 

ch 1, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 5 times,  1 dc into each of next 3sts, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 5 times

Cut off main colour yarn

 

Using a contrast colour yarn -  chain 30sts for a crochet tie, then continue by working into Round 9 of the bonnet front, making 45dc across the front – chain 30 for the second tie

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Requirements:

DK yarn, around 14g
4mm crochet hook

 

Size:

Width ~ 5”

Height ~ 6”

 

Instructions:

Worked in the round

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch into a ring

Round 1:   Ch2, make 11tc into ring, slip stitch to join (12sts)

Round 2:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2, 2tc in each stitch all around, join with slip stitch (24sts)

Round 3:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around,  join with slip stitch (36sts)

Round 4:   Ch2 then 1tc in same stitch as ch2,  * 1tc in next stitch, 1tc in next stitch,  2tc in next stitch repeat from * all around,  join with slip stitch (48sts)

The rest of the bonnet is worked flat, in rows

Round 5:   Ch2, 1tc in each stitch all around, leave last 3sts un-worked, turn (45sts)

Rounds 6 - 10:    Work 5 more rows of trebles on these 45sts

(Work should now measure around 4½“ in length – you can adjust here)

Now continue working around the back opening -  using dc -  ch 1, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 6 times,  1 dc into each of next 3sts, * (2 dc into each treble row end) 6 times

Cut off main colour yarn

 

Using a contrast colour yarn -  chain 32sts for a crochet tie, then continue by working into Round 10 of the bonnet front, making 47dc across the front – chain 32 for the second tie

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Faux Cable Baby Hats

I love knitting baby hats.  
There will always be new babies ........ so there will always be a reason to make them!!

I recently learned this new stitch, so I just had to have a go at using it for a baby hat. It looks so cute!  
I am really happy with it. 

Faux Cable Baby Hat

 

T2 = twist 2

k2tog, then before you drop the stitch off the needle, put the point of your needle between the 2sts and knit the first stitch again, before slipping both off together

T2 = twist 2

It is easy to do - just a little complicated to explain !


 

Medium Premature Baby –  9″ circumference, 4½” high

Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 8g - 10g

4mm needles

 

Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 49sts

1st Row:  S1,* k2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1

2nd Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

3rd Row:  S1, * T2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, T2, p1, k1

4th Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows 6 times more

 

Shape Top ~

29th Row:   S1, * k2, p2tog, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1                 (38sts)

30th Row:   S1, k1, * p2, k1, repeat from * to end

31st Row:   S1,* k2tog, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (26sts)

32nd Row:   S1,* k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

33rd Row:   K2tog, across row                                                                   (13sts)

34th Row:   P2tog across row to last st, p1                                                (7sts)

 

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

 

  

 

Large  Premature Baby –  11″ circumference, 5¼” high  

 Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 12g - 14g

4mm needles


Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 57sts

1st Row:  S1,* k2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1

2nd Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

3rd Row:  S1, * T2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, T2, p1, k1

4th Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows 7 times more

 

Shape Top ~

33rd Row:   S1, * k2, p2tog, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1                 (44sts)

34th Row:   S1, k1, * p2, k1, repeat from * to end

35th Row:   S1,* k2tog, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (30sts)

36th Row:   S1,* k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

37th Row:   K2tog, across row                                                                   (15sts)

38th Row:   P2tog across row to last st, k1                                                 (8sts)

 

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

 

 

 

0 – 3 Months Baby –  12″ circumference, 6” high  

 Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 16g - 18g

4mm needles


Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 65sts

1st Row:  S1,* k2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1

2nd Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

3rd Row:  S1, * T2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, T2, p1, k1

4th Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows 8 times more

 

Shape Top ~

37th Row:   S1, * k2, p2tog, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1                 (50sts)

38th Row:   S1, k1, * p2, k1, repeat from * to end

39th Row:   S1,* k2tog, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (34sts)

40th Row:   S1,* k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

41st Row:   K2tog, across row                                                                   (17sts)

42nd Row:   P2tog across row to last st, k1                                                (9sts)

 

Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

 

 

6 Months Baby –  14” circumference, 6¾” high  

 Requires:

DK yarn ~ around 20g - 24g

4mm needles


Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 73sts

1st Row:  S1,* k2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1

2nd Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

3rd Row:  S1, * T2, p2, repeat from * to last 4sts, T2, p1, k1

4th Row:  S1, k1, * p2, k2, repeat from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows 9 times more

 

Shape Top ~

41st Row:   S1, * k2, p2tog, repeat from * to last 4sts, k2, p1, k1                 (56sts)

42nd Row:   S1, k1, * p2, k1, repeat from * to end

43rd Row:   S1,* k2tog, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1                                (38sts)

44th Row:   S1,* k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1

45th Row:   K2tog, across row                                                                   (19sts)

46th Row:   P2tog across row to last st, k1                                                 (10sts)
