Warm Tweedy Adult Hats

These hats are really warm as they are made by knitting two or even three yarns together.
A great stash-buster !!

Warm Tweedy Adult Hats





Warm Tweedy Adult Hat

Use 2 strands of DK yarn (8ply) knitted together ~ or any combination of yarns to make a total of 16ply .

This gives a nice ‘tweedy’ look

I used 1 strand of DK plus 2 strands of 4ply

7 ½ mm needles


Child's Hat ~ cast on 49sts,                        Teen’s Hat ~ cast on 57sts,  
Women’s Hat  ~ cast on 65sts,                  Man’s Hat ~ cast on 73sts

Work 8 rows in k1,p1 rib

Continue in pattern ~

1st Row:  K1, *k3, p1, repeat from * to end

2nd Row:  K2, *p1, k3 repeat from * last 3sts, p1, k2

Repeat these two pattern rows until around 5½ " for child, 6” for teen, 7” for woman, 8” for man ~ ending after a 1st row has been completed

Shape Crown

1st Row:  K2, p1, *k3tog, p1, k3, p1, repeat from * to last 6 sts, k3tog, p1, k2

2nd Row:  P1, * k2, p1, repeat from * to end

3rd Row:  K2, *p1, k1, p1, k3, repeat from * to last 5sts, p1, k1, p1, k2

4th Row:  K2tog, k3, *k3tog, k3, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2tog

5th Row:  K1, *p1, k1, repeat from * to end              

6th Row:  Knit across row

7th Row:  P1, *p2tog, repeat from * to end             

8th Row:  K2tog across row, k1                                   

Break off the yarns, leaving a long ‘tail’

Thread the tail through the remaining 5sts, and pull up tightly. 

Sew up the hat. Darn away loose ends.

    Thanks for the pattern. I have used a similar pattern, but it was in only one size. So this is really useful.

    Here in the U. S. there is no 7 5 mm needle. and we would either have to go down one size to a size 10 1/2 needle or up one size to an 11, as your UK size would be a 1, which here would be used with very fine yarn to make socks.

      I hadn't 7.5 needles either, so used 8mm. It worked out fine . I think you could also go down a half size and it would be okay - up or down would depend upon how tight your tension is.

    The stitch count that you give whilst shaping the crown only applies to one size, but you don't indicate which one.
