A couple of months ago I was making a scarf for my sister. My friend Clara admired it ~ so I decided to make one for her too as a surprise gift! It is made with cotton yarn in a lovely raspberry colour.
Clara's Cotton Scarf |
It's totally reversible, and it drapes beautifully.
CLARA'S COTTON SCARF
Using 5mm needles, cast on 25sts (or any odd number of sts)
1st Row: S1, knit to end of the row
Repeat this row 4 times more
6th Row (Eyelet Row): s1, k1, * k2tog, yrn, repeat from *
to last 3sts, k3
Work 1st Row 6 times
Pattern Repeat ~
** Work eyelet row
Work 1st Row 6 times **
Repeat these 7 rows until the scarf is the length required
I worked until I had almost used 2 x 50g balls
Finish by casting off on the last row of a pattern repeat.
Please note: as you
follow the instructions you will find that the eyelet pattern is worked on
alternate right & wrong sides ~ this makes the scarf reversible
I was convinced that was a crochet scarf until I read the pattern. It's amazing that it used less than 100g. I'm saving this pattern as I have some cotton yarn and didn't know what to do with it. Now I do!

OH I am totally in love with this...So talented! Thanks so much
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty Marianna, thank you for another great pattern. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely scarf....thank you for visiting me today!
ReplyDeleteJust like Una - I thought that was a crocheted scarf too until I looked at the pattern. It's very pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous raspberry colour and lovely pattern too!
ReplyDeletekeep well
Amanda :-)
Love this scarf, Marianna! The color is gorgeous ♥
ReplyDeleteA beautiful, thoughtful gift! Your crochet is gorgeous, and thank you for visiting my blog! :-) Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteYour scarf is so beautiful!! I love the lacy design! :)
ReplyDeleteWoow, super!! ♥ Great color and I like the picot edge :-). It really looks like a crochet scarf on first sight. Great job! Thanks for the pattern!
ReplyDeleteWhat does yrn mean? It is such a cute scarf, I can't wait to try it, but I am not a super knitter....yet!
ReplyDeleteHello. yrn - yarn round needle - is the same as yarn over. Hope that helps!.
DeleteIn different countries we use different wording. Wouldn't it be so much simpler if there was a universal terminology!
Happy Knitting. M
does yrn mean yarn over?
ReplyDeleteHello piglet - yes you are right - yarn round needle is the same as yarn over. Best wishes. M
DeleteI want to make it but don't know what s1 is? As you can tell I'm a newbie!
ReplyDeleteI really love your patterns. Easy but pretty. Thanks so much for sharing. xox
ReplyDeleteHow long is it suppose to be? I used two 50 gram balls and it isn't near as long as the picture
ReplyDeleteIs this correct that you work the first 5 rows as sl1, k to end, then eyelet row but for the rest of the pattern, you work the sl1, k row 6 times and then the eyelet? Just wanted to clarify before I start.
ReplyDeleteHello Linda. Yes you are correct.
DeleteThe border looks good if you do it this way.
Happy Knitting. Marianna
What does sl1 mean?
ReplyDeleteSlip one stitch (usually as if to purl).

ReplyDeleteHI. Can you tell me the exact yarn you used for this beautiful scarf?
ReplyDeleteHi Marianna,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the clear instructions.
This is my first attempt to knit a scarf and it has come out very well. I used acrylic yarn.
Thankyou for this simple but beautiful pattern ,
ReplyDeleteJust wondering 2 50g balls of what? what yarn did you use, this really is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the pattern for the edging, please?
ReplyDeleteThis scarf is beautiful! I'd love to make it for someone as a gift. I was just wondering, is it possible to connect the ends to make this an infinity scarf? I'm new to knitting but the pattern seems do-able to me, she's just always wearing infinity scarves. Any input would be so helpful! This truly is a gorgeous scarf in such a great color! Thanks for any help you can give 🙂
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm trying this project and am confused. with 25 stitch, in my eyelet row, my last three stitches comes after k2tog. If I do k3 at the end, I end up with 24 stitches, so I do yarn over and k2 at the last three stitches. What do I do wrong? I'm a total newbie so I'm not entirely sure if my interpretation of k2tog and yarn over are correct. I just assume if I decrease and increase 1 stitch respectively, I will end up with same number of stitches in a row. Do I do this wrong?
For each knit 2 together (decrease) you are doing a yo (increase) so, there are 10 increase/decrease combinations to keep the stitch pattern consistent at 25, you will do the yo before you knit the last 3 stitches, this may be where you are losing a stitch. Start with 25 stitches, slip 1, knit 1, k2tog yo-10 times, knit 3 = 25 stitches.
DeleteI love your scarf and would love to make it. Can you say what weight yarn you used. 5mm needles suggests worsted or aran to me but it could be a dk or sport. Thank you for sharing the pattern
ReplyDeleteThank you for this pattern. I started knitting the scarf and it looks so lovely after the first set of instructions. 1-6. I very much appreciate you posting the pattern.
