Chunky Christmas Stockings - for Children

Chunky Christmas Stockings

 


Chunky Christmas Stocking ~ 9ʺ

 


Size:

Width - 3½ʺ across, (7" all around)    Length - around 9ʺ


Requires:

UK Chunky yarn OR 2 strands of DK knitted together

(For my stocking - I used 2 strands of white DK for the top border – then 1 strand of white and 1 strand of King Cole Glitz DK for the main part.

Red would also look good – or any Christmas colours -  sparkly or glittery yarn

6mm needles


Instructions:

Cast on 28sts

Knit 6 rows

Beginning with a knit row, work in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl) for 22 rows

 

Shape heel as follows -

Row 1:  Slip 1 knitwise, k15, turn

Row 2:  Slip 1 purlwise, p3, turn

Row 3:  Slip 1 knitwise, k5, turn

Row 4:  Slip 1 purlwise, p7, turn

Row 5:  Slip 1 knitwise, k9, turn

Row 6:  Slip 1 purlwise, p11, turn

Row 7:  Slip 1 knitwise, k13, turn

Row 8:  Slip 1 purlwise, p15, turn

Row 9:  Slip 1 knitwise, k17, turn

Row 10:  Slip 1 purlwise, p19, turn

Row 11:  Slip 1 knitwise, k21, turn

Row 12:  Slip 1 purlwise, p23, turn

Row 13:  Knit to end


Beginning with a purl row, work in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl) for 12 rows

 

Shape toe as follows -

P2tog all across row  (14sts)

K2tog all across row  (7sts)

Break off yarn.

Thread the yarn on to a needle and thread it through the remaining stitches.

Pull tightly and fasten off.

 

Sew up side seam

Darn away ends

Add a little ribbon bow or Christmas button if desired

Size:

Width - 4ʺ across, 8" all around      Length - around 11ʺ


Requires:

Row 3:  Slip 1 knitwise, k5, turn

Row 4:  Slip 1 purlwise, p7, turn

Row 5:  Slip 1 knitwise, k9, turn

Row 6:  Slip 1 purlwise, p11, turn

Row 7:  Slip 1 knitwise, k13, turn

Row 8:  Slip 1 purlwise, p15, turn

Row 9:  Slip 1 knitwise, k17, turn

Row 10:  Slip 1 purlwise, p19, turn

Row 11:  Slip 1 knitwise, k21, turn

Row 12:  Slip 1 purlwise, p23, turn

Row 13:  Slip 1 knitwise, k25, turn

Row 14:  Slip 1 purlwise, p27, turn

Row 15:  Knit to end


Beginning with a purl row, work in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl) for 14 more rows

 

Shape toe as follows -

P2tog all across row  (16sts)

K2tog all across row  (8sts)

Break off yarn.

Thread the yarn on to a needle and thread it through the remaining stitches.

Pull tightly and fasten off.


Sew up side seam

Darn away ends

Add a little ribbon bow or Christmas button of desired.

These are knitted with DK yarn and 4mm needles



Quick & Simple Booties             Size:   3 months                      
 
Length of sole:       4” (10cm)
 
 
Instructions:         
  
Cast on 41sts
 
Knit 11 rows
 
12th Row:     S1, p17, k5, p17, k1
 
13th Row:     S1, k15, k2tog, k5, s1, k1, psso, k16
 
14th Row:     S1, p14, p2tog tbl, k5, p2tog, p14, k1
 
15th Row:     S1, k13, k2tog, k5, s1, k1, psso, k14
 
16th Row:     S1, p12, p2tog tbl, k5, p2tog, p12, k1
 
17th Row:     S1, k11, k2tog, k5, s1, k1, psso, k12
 
18th Row:     S1, p10, p2tog tbl, k5, p2tog, p10, k1
 
19th Row:     S1, k9, k2tog, k5, s1, k1, psso, k10
 
20th Row:     S1, p8, p2tog tbl, k5, p2tog, p8, k1                            (25sts)
 
21st Row:      S1, knit across row
 
22nd Row:     S1, p9, k5, p9, k1

Repeat the last 2rows three times more

Knit 8 rows

Cast off knitwise loosely – I use a larger size needle, or a stretchy cast off

Sew back seam

Darn away ends

Fold down cuff
