Crossover and Twisted Headbands

Crossover and Twisted Headbands

Headbands are really popular right now - and they are practical too.
These 2 versions are similar to knit, but give a quite different look!

I made the crossover style as a quick gift for a friend who is having a bit of a tough time right now!  She loved it!

Both designs are quick to knit - why not make them both :)

Crossover Headband                       Adult Woman

Crossover Headband

Requirements:

UK chunky weight yarn – or 2 strands of DK knitted together

6½ mm needles

Size:

Width ~ 4”

Length ~ 17” (I know this doesn't sound long enough - but these headbands are stretchy!)

Instructions:

Cast on 14sts

Work in garter stitch throughout (every row knit)

Knit until your work measures around 6½”

Dividing Row ~

K5, k2tog and slip the remaining 7sts on to a stitch holder (or a scrap length of yarn)

Work on this first set of 6sts only – knit every row until work measures around 10½”. For neatness, make sure your yarn tail is at the outside edge of the headband. Cut off the yarn. Put these 6sts onto a stitch holder (or a scrap length of yarn)

Put the 7sts from the first stitch holder back onto a knitting needle – k2tog, k5

Knit every row until work measures the same as the first strip.  For neatness, make sure your yarn tail is at the centre edge of the headband. Do NOT cut off the yarn.

Cross this strip of 6sts over the top of the first strip – you will complete the headband working across both strips.

Joining Row ~

K5, kfb, then put the 6sts from the stitch holder back on to your left-hand needle and kfb, k5

You will now have 14sts - knit until your work measures around 6½” from the join

Cast off, leaving a tail for joining

Join the cast on and cast off edges

I used the tails at the crossover to make a couple of stitches  - to help stabilise the crossover

(I marked them in blue to show you where I placed them)
