Simple Baby and Preemie Baby Mittens



0-3 months, newborn, preemie

This pattern includes 2 styles of baby mittens .......

One style has a ribbed cuff to ensure a snug fit
The second style has a garter stitch border - and includes a ribbon bow

Satin Bow Preemie Baby Mittens


0-3 months        newborn        preemie



Simple Baby Mittens                       Make 2 mittens the same

Tension:       22sts = 4" (10cm) over stocking stitch

0-3 months

Width:          2½" (6.5cm), 5" (13cm) all around 
Length:         4½" (11.5cm)

Using DK yarn & 3.25mm needles cast on 25sts

CUFF
1st Row:       S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
2nd Row:       S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat last 2 rows 5 times more

HAND
Change to 4mm needles
1st Row:       S1, knit to end
2nd Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last two rows 7 times more or until work measures 4" from the cast on edge

Shape the top ~

Next Row:    S1, *k2tog, k1, repeat from * to end                       17sts
Next Row:    S1, purl to last st, k1
Next Row:    *K2tog all across row, to last st, k1                         9sts
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining stitches and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends


Newborn

Width:                    2" (5cm), 4" (10cm) all around 
Length:                   4" (10cm)

Using DK yarn & 3.25mm needles cast on 21sts

CUFF
1st Row:       S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
2nd Row:       S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat last 2 rows 4 times more

HAND
Change to 4mm needles
1st Row:                 S1, knit to end
2nd Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last two rows 6 times more or until work measures 3½" from the cast on edge

Shape the top ~

Next Row:    S1, *k2tog, k1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2tog               14sts
Next Row:    S1, purl to last st, k1
Next Row:    *K2tog, all across row                                    `       7sts
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining stitches and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends


Premature Baby

Width:          1¾" (4.5cm), 3 ½" (9cm) all around 
Length:         3¼" (8.5cm)

Using DK yarn & 3.25mm needles cast on 19sts

CUFF
1st Row:       S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
2nd Row:       S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat last 2 rows 3 times more

HAND
Change to 4mm needles
1st Row:        S1, knit to end
2nd Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last two rows 5 times more or until work measures 2 ¾" from the cast on edge

Shape the top ~

Next Row:    S1, *k2tog, k1, repeat from * to end                       13sts
Next Row:    S1, purl to last st, k1
Next Row:    *K2tog all across row, to last st, k1                          7sts
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

Ribbon Bow Baby Mittens                Make 2 mittens the same

Tension:       22sts = 4" (10cm) over stocking stitch

Length:         4½" (11.5cm)

Using DK yarn & 3.25mm needles cast on 25sts

CUFF
1st Row:       S1, knit to end
Repeat this row 11 times more

HAND
Change to 4mm needles
1st Row (eyelets):  S1, k2, *yrn, k2tog, k1; repeat from * to the end
2nd Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1
3rd Row:        S1, knit to end
4th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last two rows 6 times more or until work measures 4" from the cast on edge

Shape the top ~
Next Row:    S1, *k2tog, k1, repeat from * to end                       17sts
Next Row:    S1, purl to last st, k1
Next Row:    *K2tog all across row, to last st, k1                         9sts
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining stitches and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends
Make a crochet chain or use a pretty ribbon to thread through the eyelet holes, tie in a bow


Newborn

  7. Thank you for providing/sharing your knitting patterns. Whilst off work recovery from a knee replacement op I decided to knit some premature baby hats, booties & mittens to donate to my local maternity ward. Using all your patterns for these items I found them very simple to follow, was able to easily introduce contrasting colours. What's more the garments took no time to complete. I thoroughly enjoyed using my recovery time for a beneficial cause. Thank you so much for making your patterns so readily available.
