A couple of months ago I was making a scarf for my sister. My friend Clara admired it ~ so I decided to make one for her too as a surprise gift! It is made with cotton yarn in a lovely raspberry colour.

It's totally reversible, and it drapes beautifully.
CLARA'S COTTON SCARF
Using 5mm needles, cast on 25sts (or any odd number of sts)
1st Row: S1, knit to end of the row
Repeat this row 4 times more
6th Row (Eyelet Row): s1, k1, * k2tog, yrn, repeat from *
to last 3sts, k3
Work 1st Row 6 times
Pattern Repeat ~
** Work eyelet row
Work 1st Row 6 times **
Repeat these 7 rows until the scarf is the length required
I worked until I had almost used 2 x 50g balls
Finish by casting off on the last row of a pattern repeat.
Please note: as you
follow the instructions you will find that the eyelet pattern is worked on
alternate right & wrong sides ~ this makes the scarf reversible
I was convinced that was a crochet scarf until I read the pattern. It's amazing that it used less than 100g. I'm saving this pattern as I have some cotton yarn and didn't know what to do with it. Now I do!

ReplyDeleteIs this correct that you work the first 5 rows as sl1, k to end, then eyelet row but for the rest of the pattern, you work the sl1, k row 6 times and then the eyelet? Just wanted to clarify before I start.

ReplyDeleteI'm trying this project and am confused. with 25 stitch, in my eyelet row, my last three stitches comes after k2tog. If I do k3 at the end, I end up with 24 stitches, so I do yarn over and k2 at the last three stitches. What do I do wrong? I'm a total newbie so I'm not entirely sure if my interpretation of k2tog and yarn over are correct. I just assume if I decrease and increase 1 stitch respectively, I will end up with same number of stitches in a row. Do I do this wrong?
For each knit 2 together (decrease) you are doing a yo (increase) so, there are 10 increase/decrease combinations to keep the stitch pattern consistent at 25, you will do the yo before you knit the last 3 stitches, this may be where you are losing a stitch. Start with 25 stitches, slip 1, knit 1, k2tog yo-10 times, knit 3 = 25 stitches.
