Jack & Jill Burial Gown


Full of simple dignity .........

Jack & Jill  Angel Baby Burial Gown


I wanted to write a pattern for a simple and sweet burial gown that would be suitable for boys too - 
most of the patterns I found looked quite feminine. 

So sad that these are needed - but I really hope this will bring comfort to a family at such a sad time in their lives. 



Jack & Jill     ~        Angel Baby Burial Gown

         
Size:

Width:           5", (10" all around) 
Length:         8½" (easy to adjust)


Tension: 

22sts = 4" (10cm)


Requires:

Around 28g of DK (8ply) yarn
4mm needles
2 buttons for the back (and 3 buttons for the front - optional) 


Using blue ~ Cast on 37sts

Rows 1& 2   Knit
Row 3          K2, yrn, k2tog, (makes a buttonhole), knit to end of row
Row 4          Knit
Cut off blue, join in white ~
Row 5         Knit
Row 6         K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 7         K6, kfb, k1, kfb, k2, kfb, k1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1, kfb, k2, kfb, k1, kfb, k7        45sts
Row 8         K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 9         K7, kfb, k1, kfb, k4, kfb, k1, kfb, k10, kfb, k1, kfb, k4, kfb, k1, kfb, k8
Row 10       K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 11       K8, kfb, k1, kfb, k6, kfb, k1, kfb, k12, kfb, k1, kfb, k6, kfb, k1, kfb, k9
Row 12       K4, purl to last 4sts, k4
Row 13       K9, kfb, k1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1, kfb, k14, kfb, k1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1, kfb, k10
Row 14       K4, purl to last 4sts, k4

Row 20       K4, purl to last 4sts, k4

Row 21       K15, slip next 19sts onto a stitch holder, k25, slip next 19sts onto a stitch holder, k15
Row 22       K4, purl to last 4sts, k4                                     (55sts) 
Row 23       S1, knit to end
Row 24       K4, *p3, k1, repeat from * to last 3sts, k3

Repeat the last 2 rows until work measures 8”
Knit 5 rows (using blue or white)
Cast off loosely knitwise

Short Sleeves ~ Both Alike
Using blue or white ~ 
Put the 19sts, left on a stitch holder, back on to a knitting needle. Rejoin yarn.
Knit 5 rows
Cast off

Make the second sleeve in the same way
Sew up sleeve seams. Gather together underarms
Darn away ends
Sew on buttons
