htr = half treble     tr = treble crochet      ch = chain     sl.st = slip stitch 


DK yarn    around 40g
4mm hook
9sts = 2”


Baby or Baby Doll Vest Top


Size 1:            
To fit a small preemie baby - or baby doll of around 11” chest, and 14” height

Width:       12"
Length:     7" 

Back & Front – both alike
(This is worked in alternate rows of half treble & treble crochet throughout)

Chain 30
1st Row:           1htr in 3rd chain, 1htr in each chain to end, ch3, turn                         (28sts)
2nd Row:          1tr in each stitch, ch2, turn                                                                 (28sts)
3rd Row:           1htr in each st, ch3, turn                                                                     (28sts)
Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more
10th Row:         1tr in each stitch, ch2, turn    

Shape Armholes
11th Row:         sl.st cross 3sts, ch1, 1htr in each until the last 3sts, ch3, turn            (22sts)
12th Row:         tr2tog, 1tr in each st to last 3sts, tr2tog, 1tr, ch2, turn                       (20sts)
13th Row:         1htr in each st, ch3, turn
14th Row:         As 12th Row                                                                                        (18sts)
15th Row:         As 13th Row

First Shoulder Strap
16th Row:         Work 5tr, ch2, turn                                                                              (6sts)
17th Row:         1htr in each st, ch3, turn
18th Row:         tr2tog, tr2tog, 1tr, ch2, turn                                                                 (4sts)
19th Row:         1htr in each st                        
Fasten off                   
Turn work

Second Shoulder Strap
Leave 6sts unworked for the neck – rejoin yarn –
Next Row:       ch3, 5tr, ch2, turn                                                                                (6sts)
Next Row:       1htr in each st, ch3, turn
Next Row:       tr2tog, tr2tog, 1tr, ch2, turn                                                                 (4sts)
Next Row:       1htr in each st            
Fasten off
Join side seams

Border
Rejoin yarn at underarm
1st Round:        Work a round of dc all around the front armhole, shoulder, neck, shoulder and underarm, and then then continue on the back armhole, shoulder, neck, shoulder and underarm
(I worked 2dc in each tr and 1dc in each htr all around)
2nd Round:       1dc in each st all around (use a contrast colour for this round if desired)
Fasten off
Darn away ends

Add a small button to each shoulder 


Size 2:            
To fit a medium preemie baby - or a baby doll of around 13” chest, and 16” height

Width:        14"
Length:       9½"

Back & Front – both alike
