Little Jay Baby Bonnets

I know that many of you knit for babies born earlier than expected, and donate to hospitals.
So I thought I would add these sweet little bonnets for premature babies.

Little Jay Baby Bonnet              Angel Baby

Size:
Width:           2 ¾ ”
Height:          3 ¼ ”

Requires:
DK yarn
4mm needles


Instructions:
Cast on 11sts

Work in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) for 16 rows

Cast on 10sts at end of next 2 rows                                                (31sts)

Row 1:          S1, knit to end
Row 2:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 3:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
Row 4:          S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 5:          S1, knit to end
Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 6 rows once more

Knit 2 rows

Cast off loosely (knitwise), leaving the last stitch on the needle – do not cut the yarn

Sew side edge of cap to 12 cast on stitches of front - sew second side the same

Continuing from the stitch left on the needle - pick up 8 more stitches along one front edge, 11sts along the base, 9sts along the next front edge                  (29sts)

Row 1:          S1, knit to end
Row 2:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2     (Eyelet Row)
Row 3:          S1, knit to end
Cast off loosely
Darn away ends

Crochet a chain about 18”and draw through eyelet row

Tie in a bow

Work in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) for 18 rows
Cast on 11sts at end of next 2 rows                                                (35sts)

Row 1:          S1, knit to end
Row 2:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 3:          S1, knit to end
Row 4:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 5:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 6 rows once more
Row 13:        S1, knit to end
Row 14:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Row 15:        S1, knit to end
Row 16:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Knit 2 rows

Cast off loosely (knitwise), leaving the last stitch on the needle – do not cut the yarn
Sew side edge of cap to 12 cast on stitches of front - sew second side the same

Continuing from the stitch left on the needle - pick up 9 more stitches along one front edge, 13sts along the base, 10sts along the next front edge                  (33sts)
Row 1:          S1, knit to end
Row 2:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2     (Eyelet Row)
Row 3:          S1, knit to end

Cast off loosely
Darn away ends

Crochet a chain about 20" and draw through eyelet row

Tie in a bow

4mm needles

Instructions:

Cast on 15sts

Work in stocking stitch (1row knit, 1 row purl) for 20 rows
Cast on 12sts at end of next 2 rows                                                (39sts)
Row 1:          S1, knit to end
Row 2:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 3:          S1, knit to end
Row 4:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 5:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 6 rows twice more

Work 2 rows stocking stitch
Knit 2 rows

Cast off loosely (knitwise), leaving the last stitch on the needle – do not cut the yarn

Sew side edge of cap to 12 cast on stitches of front - sew second side the same

Continuing from the stitch left on the needle - pick up 10 more stitches along one front edge, 15sts along the base, 11sts along the next front edge                  (37sts)
Row 1:          S1, knit to end
Row 2:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2     (Eyelet Row)
Row 3:          S1, knit to end

Cast off loosely
Darn away ends

Crochet a chain about 22" and draw through eyelet row
Tie in a bow

Row 4:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 5:          S1, knit to end
Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 7:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
Row 8:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 6 rows (rows 3 – 8) twice more

Work 4 rows stocking stitch

Knit 4 rows

Cast off loosely (knitwise), leaving the last stitch on the needle – do not cut the yarn

Sew side edge of cap to 14 cast on stitches of front - sew second side the same

Continuing from the stitch left on the needle - pick up 13 more stitches along one front edge, 17sts along the base, 14sts along the next front edge                  (45sts)

Row 3:          S1, knit to end
Row 4:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 5:          S1, knit to end
Row 6:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Row 7:          S1, *k2tog, yrn, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2
Row 8:          S1, purl to last st, k1
Repeat the last 6 rows (rows 3 – 8)  twice more

Work 4 rows stocking stitch

Knit 4 rows

Cast off loosely (knitwise), leaving the last stitch on the needle – do not cut the yarn
