Little Charlie - Premature Baby Jacket



Little Charlie  ~  Premature Baby Jacket with 2 Buttons                        

 

Requirements:

28g – 30g DK yarn

4mm needles

2 small buttons

 

Tension/ Gauge:        

22sts = 4” (10cm)

 

Measurements:

Width:                          12”  (30.5cm)  

Length:                        6½ “ (17cm)

Sleeve length:             4” (10cm)

 

 

JACKET

 

Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

Cast on 23sts

Knit 4 rows

5th Row:           Knit

6th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 2 rows until the sleeve measures about 4”

Next Row:       Cast off 2sts, knit to last 2sts, cast off 2sts                (19sts)

Leave these 19 stitches on a spare needle, or stitch holder

 

Work the Main Part

Cast on 66sts 

Work 4 rows in garter stitch   (knit every row)

5th Row:           S1, knit across row

6th Row:           S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

7th Row:           S1, k3, * k2, p2, rep from * to last 6sts, k6

8th Row:           S1, k3, * p2, k2, rep from * to last 2sts, k2

9th Row:           S1, knit across row

10th Row:         S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

Repeat the last 6 rows three times more  

29th Row:         S1, knit 15sts, cast off 4sts, knit 25sts, cast off 4sts, k15sts

Next Row:  S1, k3, p12, purl across 19sts from the first sleeve, purl 26sts from the back, purl 19sts from the second sleeve, purl 12sts from left front, k4                     (96sts)

 

 

Work the Yoke

1st Row:           S1, k2tog, yrn, k1, (makes a buttonhole), knit to end

2nd Row:          S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

3rd Row:           S1, k13, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k15, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k22, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k15, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k14                (88sts)

4th Row:           S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

5th Row:           S1, k12, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k13, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k20, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k13, s1,k1, psso, k2tog, k13                (80sts)

Sew up the sleeve seams.  Darn away ends.

Add 2 little buttons

Height:                         3½ “

 

Using 4mm needles & DK yarn, cast on 36sts

1st Row:           S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row 3 times more

5th Row:           S1, knit to end of row

6th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

7th Row:           S1, k2, * p2, k2, rep from * to last st, k1

8th Row:           S1, * p2, k2, rep from * to last 3sts, p2, k1

9th Row:           S1, knit across row

10th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 6 rows twice more  

 

Shape Top ~

Next Row:       *K3, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (29sts)

 Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

 Next Row:      *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (22sts)

 Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1  

 Next Row:      *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                       (15sts)

 Next Row:      S1, * p2tog, repeat from * to end                               (8sts)                                      

 Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

 With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

 Sew up side seam and weave in ends.
