To fit a baby of around  0 – 3 months

Width:             6 “ (15cm)   12” (30cm) all around 
 

Height:           6 “ (15cm)

 

DK (8ply) yarn – or any yarn which knits to a tension of 22sts = 4” (10cm) over stocking stitch

 

4mm needles

 

This hat is knitted top-down

 

Cast on 7sts

1^st Row:            Kfb every stitch            (14sts)

2^nd Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

3^rd Row:           S1, *(kfb, k1), repeat from * to last st, kfb                  (21sts)

 

4^th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

 

5^th Row:           S1, *(kfb, k2) repeat from * to last 2sts, kfb, k1         (28sts)

 

6^th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

 

7^th Row:           S1, *(kfb, k3), repeat from * to last 3sts, kfb, k2        (35sts)

 

8^th Row:           S1, purl to last st, k1

 

9^th Row:           S1, *(kfb, k4), repeat from * to last 4sts, kfb, k3        (42sts)

 

10^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

11^th Row:         S1, *(kfb, k5) repeat from * to last 5sts, kfb, k4         (49sts)

 

12^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

13^th Row:         S1, *(kfb, k6) repeat from * to last 6sts, kfb, k5         (56sts)

 

14^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

15^th Row:         S1, *(kfb, k7) repeat from * to last 7sts, kfb, k6         (63sts)

 

16^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

17^th Row:         S1, knit to end

 

18^th Row:         S1, purl to last st, k1

 

Repeat last 2rows until work measures 5 ½ ” (14cm)

 

Rib – change colour if you wish ~

 

1^st Row:            S1, *k1, p1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2

 

2^nd Row:           S1, *p1, k1, rep from * to end

 

Repeat these 2 rows twice more

 

7^th Row:           S1, k1, * yrn, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, yrn, k1

Cast off loosely PURLWISE (I used a 5mm needle to make sure I had a loose cast off edge)

Gather together top. Sew up seam.  Darn away ends. Add a pretty button or a little ribbon bow.
