Easy 2-needle Toddler, Child, and Teen Mittens

It's getting to that time of year again ~ when little fingers need mittens to keep them cosy.

 

These are so very simple. Knitted on 2 needles.

And perfect for boys or girls.

Toddler's Mittens      Age 2 - 3 years                          

Requirements:

DK yarn  (8ply) ~ around 20g of acrylic DK

4mm needles

 

Size:

Width:   5¼"  (13cm)  all around

Length:  5½"  (14cm)

 

Instructions:            

Make two mittens

CUFF

Cast on 29sts

1^st Row:        S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2^nd Row:        S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat last 2 rows 5 times more

 

HAND

1^st Row:        Knit                 

2^nd Row:        Purl - inc in the first and last stitches                           (31sts)

3^rd Row:        Knit

4^th Row:        and all following even rows – Purl

5^th Row:        K14, inc in next 2 sts, k15                                            (33sts)

7^th Row:        K14, inc in next st, k2, inc in next st, k15                     (35sts)

9^th Row:        K14, inc in next st, k4, inc in next st, k15                     (37sts)

11^th Row:      K14, inc in next st, k6, inc in next st, k15                     (39sts)

Working on these centre 11sts only work a further 5 rows

K2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k3tog

Cut off yarn leaving a tail. Draw a needle through these 5sts. Draw up tightly and fasten off.

With wrong side facing, rejoin yarn to last 15sts left on the needle, purl 15

Continue on 30sts, - work 4 rows
