No Trouble - Toddler and Child Mittens






Contrast Cuff Toddler Mittens    Age 2 – 3 years


Size:

Length:  5½"  (14cm)

Width:    5"  (12.5cm)  all around


Requirements:

DK yarn 

4mm needles


Pattern:

Make two mittens


CUFF


Using contrast colour, cast on 29sts


1st Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2nd Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end


Repeat last 2 rows 5 more


Cut off contrast colour and join in main colour


HAND


1st Row:       Knit             

2nd Row:       Purl - inc in the first and last stitches                                (31sts)

3rd Row:       Knit

4th Row:       and all following even rows – Purl

5th Row:       K14, inc in next 2 sts, k15                                                (33sts)

7th Row:       K14, inc in next st, k2, inc in next st, k15                          (35sts)

9th Row:       K14, inc in next st, k4, inc in next st, k15                          (37sts)

11th Row:     K14, inc in next st, k6, inc in next st, k15                          (39sts)

13th Row:  K14, inc in next st, k8, inc in next st, k15  (41sts)

14th Row:  P26, turn


THUMB


K11, turn


Working on these centre 11sts only work a further 5 rows


Next row:  K2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k3tog


Cut off yarn leaving a tail. Draw a needle through these 5sts. Draw up tightly and fasten off.


TOP


With wrong side facing, rejoin yarn to last 15sts left on the needle, purl 15


Continue on 30sts, - work 4 rows


SHAPE TOP


1st Row:  S1, s1, k1, psso, k9, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k9, k2tog, k1

2nd Row: and all following even rows – Purl

3rd Row:  S1, s1, k1, psso, k7, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k7, k2tog, k1

5th Row:  S1, s1, k1, psso, k5, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k5, k2tog, k1

7th Row:  S1, s1, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, k1

Cast off purlwise


Join the thumb seam, top and side seam. Darn away ends.

Decorate with a pretty button or bow


Contrast Cuff Child's Mittens              Age 4 - 5 years


Size:

Length:  6½ "  (16.5 cm)

Width:    6½"  (16.5cm)  all around


Requirements:

DK yarn 

4mm needles


Pattern:                 


Make two mittens


CUFF

Using contrast colour, cast on 35sts


1st Row:  S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2nd Row:  S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end


Repeat last 2 rows 6 more


Cut off contrast colour and join in main colour



HAND

1st Row:       Knit             

2nd Row:       Purl - inc in the first and last stitches                              (37sts)

3rd Row:       Knit

4th Row:       and all following even rows – Purl

5th Row:       K17, inc in next 2 sts, k18                                                 (39sts)

7th Row:       K17, inc in next st, k2, inc in next st, k18                          (41sts)

9th Row:       K17, inc in next st, k4, inc in next st, k18                          (43sts)

11th Row:     K17, inc in next st, k6, inc in next st, k18                          (45sts)

13th Row:     K17, inc in next st, k8, inc in next st, k18                          (47sts)

15th Row:     K17, inc in next st, k10, inc in next st, k18                        (49sts)

16th Row:     P31, turn


THUMB


K13, turn

Working on these centre 13sts only work a further 9 rows

K2tog 5 times, k3tog

Cut off yarn leaving a tail. Draw a needle through these 6sts. Draw up tightly and fasten off.


TOP


With wrong side facing, rejoin yarn to last 18sts left on the needle, purl 18

Continue on 36sts, - work 6 rows


SHAPE TOP


1st Row:       S1, s1, k1, psso, k12, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k12, k2tog, k1

2nd Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1

3rd Row:       S1, s1, k1, psso, k10, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k10, k2tog, k1

5th Row:       S1, s1, k1, psso, k8, k2tog, k2, s1, k1, psso, k8, k2tog, k1
